Gen Z Whistleblower Urges CBSE for Re-evaluation Deadline Extension

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is set to close the re-evaluation window for Class 12 answer sheets today, June 7. This facility is specifically for candidates who chose to receive scanned copies of their answer scripts. As the deadline looms, Siddhant Sarthak, a prominent Class 12 student, took to social media to request an extension, gaining significant attention.

Response to Allegations Stirs Up Online Support

<h4Sarthak’s tweet read, “Can you please extend the deadline? I was busy this week exposing you.” His plea has resonated widely online, garnering thousands of likes and numerous supportive replies. Many students seem to connect with his frustrations regarding the re-evaluation process, which has been under scrutiny due to recent controversies surrounding the CBSE’s On-Screen Marking (OSM) system.

Prior to this, the re-evaluation deadline was initially set for June 6 but was extended by a day due to concerns over glitches in the portal and cybersecurity threats. The decision to prolong the process was welcomed by students anxious to ensure their evaluations were fair amidst allegations of irregularities.

The portal subsequently reopened at around 4:30 am on June 2, only after receiving clearance from security teams. A malicious Denial-of-Service (DoS) attack, which reportedly sent nearly 3.8 million packets, occurred on June 3, just as thousands attempted to log in for requests. Fortunately, the system remained secure, thanks to timely interventions by the technical teams.

Insight Into the CBSE Controversy

Seventeen-year-old Siddhant Sarthak has become a central figure in this ongoing issue, challenging CBSE’s tender process for its OSM system. After receiving his re-evaluated scanned answer sheet, he decided to dig deeper into the situation, questioning the legitimacy of the existing processes.

According to Sarthak, an examination of CBSE’s tender documents unveiled potential discrepancies. He claimed that the board allegedly relaxed key eligibility criteria, which allowed Hyderabad-based Coempt Edutech to secure the OSM contract more easily. Changes to crucial tender conditions reportedly enabled Coempt Edutech to qualify without the stringent requirements initially outlined.

His assertions have launched widespread discussions on social media as he elaborated on these findings through a detailed blog. He noted that the original tender was reportedly removed from public view, raising further concerns about transparency in the board’s dealings.

Impacts and Future Steps for Students

Sarthak’s discoveries have not only captured the interest of students but also sparked dialogue around accountability within CBSE. The emerging narrative reveals a growing unease among students regarding their evaluations and how discrepancies may influence future academic pursuits.

As the deadline for the re-evaluation approaches, many students are left wondering about the implications of these findings. They are urging CBSE to ensure the integrity of the examination and evaluation process, stressing the importance of transparency and fairness as they gear up for their futures.

While the end of the re-evaluation window is near, the discussions elicited by Sarthak’s whistleblowing may lead to lasting changes in how CBSE addresses similar issues moving forward. The administration is under increasing pressure to ensure that every student’s concerns are addressed effectively and fairly.
