A head constable of the Delhi Traffic Police tragically lost his life after being struck by a scooter and subsequently run over by a goods carrier vehicle. The incident occurred on Saturday while he was on duty near ISBT Kashmere Gate in north Delhi. The officer, 39-year-old Head Constable Anil, was overseeing traffic on the Ring Road, directing vehicles towards Chandgi Ram Akhara.

According to police reports, the accident took place when a scooter with three riders approached from the direction of Hanuman Mandir and collided with the constable, knocking him to the ground. Moments later, a goods carrier drove over Anil, resulting in critical injuries.

Emergency services responded promptly, and Anil was taken to Sushruta Trauma Centre located in Civil Lines. Despite medical intervention, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival, as the extent of his injuries was significant.

Investigation Underway

Authorities reported that the riders of the scooter fled the scene immediately following the collision. The driver of the goods carrier was detained by police at the location. Investigators are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the area in hopes of identifying the scooter riders and establishing the events leading up to the accident.

Police emphasised the importance of securing evidence from the CCTV footage to facilitate the investigation. They aim to determine the sequence of events that culminated in the head constable’s death, focusing on whether any traffic laws were violated and the manner in which the scooters and vehicles interacted.

Family members of the deceased officer have been notified of the incident. A police spokesperson expressed condolences to the family of Head Constable Anil, recognising the risks associated with traffic management duties.

Background of Head Constable Anil

Head Constable Anil was a resident of Chhatarpur in Delhi and originally hailed from the Kotputli district in Rajasthan. He had been serving in Delhi for several years, where he was known for his dedication and commitment to duty.
