Security has been significantly bolstered across New Delhi in preparation for the upcoming Independence Day on August 15. Delhi Police are implementing intensified patrolling, conducting vehicle inspections, and enhancing surveillance to avert any potential incidents during the celebrations.

Personnel have been deployed throughout various districts, with additional checkpoints and pickets established in strategic locations. The primary aim is to identify any suspicious individuals and vehicles while closely monitoring known criminal elements.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for South Delhi, Anant Mittal, reported that officers of all ranks are actively participating in the security operations. Pickets have been set up in various areas of South Delhi, focusing on vigilant checks for any potential threats associated with the national holiday.

Deployment of Over 1,600 Officers

According to Joint Commissioner of Police for the Southern Range, Vijay Kumar, more than 1,600 police personnel, including a significant portion of women officers, have been dispatched to the southern part of the city. Approximately 60 pickets, covering both major and minor routes, have been established to enhance security.

Kumar noted that integrated checking is underway at major pickets, with collaboration between traffic police and local police units. Officers are inspecting both four-wheeled and two-wheeled vehicles, alongside conducting checks in parking zones to ensure compliance with security protocols.

The focus remains on identifying and monitoring individuals with criminal backgrounds, ensuring that vehicles are thoroughly checked in areas prone to suspicious activity. This comprehensive security plan aims to create a safe environment as Independence Day approaches.

Use of Advanced Surveillance Techniques

Senior officers have been assigned to conduct inspections while patrolling their respective zones, reinforcing the security framework. Joint Commissioner of Police, Madhur Verma, stated that picket checks have been intensified to maintain thorough oversight of all areas.

In East Delhi, DCP Rajeev Kumar confirmed that all personnel are engaged in street-level operations as part of the Independence Day security measures. Active checks are being performed to ensure that anti-social elements are swiftly dealt with, contributing to a secure atmosphere for celebratory events.

Additionally, police are employing drones for aerial surveillance of areas anticipated to witness large gatherings or increased traffic. This technological enhancement aims to effectively monitor activities and respond quickly to any unusual occurrences.

As the capital gears up for Independence Day, security forces are committed to maintaining heightened vigilance through a multi-layered approach. Local police, traffic officers, and special units are working in conjunction at checkpoints and sensitive areas, ensuring comprehensive coverage of border regions and major entry points.
