The resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has been hailed by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh as a significant achievement for the youth and students of India. Singh stated that the ongoing movement against examination paper leaks has expanded into a broader call for employment opportunities and increased government accountability. Following his resignation, Singh expressed gratitude towards the protesting students, attributing the government’s action to their sustained efforts.

In a message posted on X, Singh emphasised the role of young people in influencing government actions. He commended the power of youth and students, suggesting that their collective strength was pivotal in encouraging the Centre to take decisive action. Singh noted, “Long live the power of youth, long live the power of students,” reinforcing the notion that the youth is essential in driving societal change.

Following his post, a video was shared in which Singh expressed further appreciation for nationwide protests that led to Pradhan’s resignation. Acknowledging the impact of these demonstrations, Singh articulated that the engagement of millions of youth across the country had effectively awakened a government that was previously indifferent.

Protests Strengthen Youth Advocacy

Singh highlighted the numerous protests held in the month preceding Pradhan’s resignation, particularly at Jantar Mantar. He noted the efforts of activists, including Sonam Wangchuk and Abhijeet Dipke, who undertook hunger strikes to draw attention to the movement’s demands. Singh communicated that the endurance of the protests played a vital role in achieving this milestone.

In his statement, Singh pointed out that the government, which had previously resisted similar calls to action, was compelled to acknowledge and address the issues raised by students. He urged the youth to persist in their campaign, albeit with a focus on constructive outcomes such as securing employment and demanding accountability from those in power.

These remarks followed the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), which has been a leading influence in the protests, welcoming Pradhan’s resignation. CJP leader Abhijeet Dipke addressed the protesters, confirming that demonstrations would continue until all demands were satisfactorily met, underscoring the group’s commitment to their cause.

Government’s Response and Future Directions

In Pradhan’s resignation letter addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he stated that stepping down was in the best interest of students. He expressed concern regarding the possibility of the youth becoming “trapped in a web of confusion,” a reflection of the recent controversies surrounding examinations.

Pradhan referenced actions taken by the government to address irregularities associated with the NEET-UG examination held on May 3. He noted that the Centre’s response included transferring the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation, cancelling the exam, and planning a re-test alongside implementing Computer-Based Testing for future examinations.

This resignation announcement followed a meeting between CJP representatives and several Union Ministers, aimed at discussing the ongoing protests and concerns raised by the student community. The protests have been marked by demands for financial compensation for the families of students who have faced distressing situations linked to examination pressures, as well as calls for accountability regarding police actions during demonstrations.
