Amit Shah to Visit West Bengal for Two Days; Security Review, Development Projects on agenda

The CSR Journal Magazine

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will arrive in West Bengal on a two-day visit starting July 18, with a packed itinerary that includes high-level security meetings and key development engagements. Shah will begin his visit in North Bengal, where he is scheduled to chair a crucial meeting at Uttarkanya, the state’s administrative headquarters in the region.

According to sources, the meeting will focus on strengthening border security, including enhanced surveillance along international borders, improved monitoring at BSF outposts, and other strategic concerns. Senior officials, including the Chief Minister, Chief Secretary, and top-ranking state administration officers, are expected to attend.

Representatives from central agencies such as the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) will also participate, with discussions likely to address cross-border drug smuggling.

Later in the evening, Shah will depart from Bagdogra Airport around 7:30 PM and reach Kolkata by approximately 8:30 PM. He will stay overnight at the Soujanya Guest House—marking the first time a Union Home Minister will stay at the state government-run facility.

On July 19, the Home Minister will hold a meeting at the guest house to review the law and order situation in the state. Superintendents of Police (SPs) and District Magistrates (DMs) from South Bengal districts are likely to attend the meeting.

Museum inauguration and Amul project launch

Following the review meeting, Shah will visit the National Library of India to inaugurate the newly constructed “Word Museum.” He will then proceed to the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre, where he is scheduled to lay the foundation stone for the Amul Bengal Dairy curd production unit at around 4:00 PM.

After concluding his engagements, Shah will head to Kolkata Airport in the evening and depart for New Delhi. Political observers view the visit as significant, given its focus on border security, law and order, and key development initiatives in West Bengal.
