West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced the government’s unwavering commitment to combatting drug-related crime during a recent operation targeting a cross-border narcotics network. The operation was jointly executed by police forces from the Dakshin Dinajpur and Malda districts. Adhikari congratulated the police for successfully apprehending key figures in this criminal organisation, which operates along interstate borders.

Following the earlier arrest of drug smuggler Mridul Ghosh, law enforcement agencies conducted thorough investigations, leading to the capture of Pintu Sarkar, a significant associate of Ghosh, along with two other suspects. This operation marks a critical step in dismantling the drug trafficking network identified by authorities.

The collective efforts of both district police units have reportedly delivered a significant blow to the narcotics operations prevalent in the region. Adhikari’s statements highlight the strategic importance of these joint operations, particularly in regions with rising crime rates associated with drug trafficking.

Seizures and Ongoing Investigations

During coordinated raids at a location in Mangalbari, police recovered substantial evidence, including Rs 2.4 crore in cash, thousands of bottles of cough syrup valued at Rs 90 lakh in the black market, and around 20 grams of gold. These seizures underscore the scale of operations conducted by these criminal networks, prompting a focused response from local authorities.

Adhikari confirmed that thorough interrogations are ongoing, with investigators aiming to uncover the full extent of the network and identifying all individuals involved in this illicit trade. The successful seizures are expected to strengthen the case against the suspects and assist in broader efforts to combat drug-related crime.

The Chief Minister reiterated the necessity of collaboration between various law enforcement agencies to safeguard the region from drug syndicates. He emphasised the need for vigilance and proactive measures to ensure that the youth are protected from the adverse effects of substance abuse.

Zero Tolerance Policy Against Drug Crime

The West Bengal administration continued to uphold a “zero tolerance policy” against drug trafficking and related crimes. Adhikari underscored the intention to eliminate illegal drug operations completely, sending a clear message that such activities will not be tolerated.

He stated that ongoing and intensive raids are being carried out across border areas, demonstrating the government’s resolve to tackle this issue decisively. Adhikari emphasised that the state’s commitment extends to taking all necessary legal actions against those who pose a danger to public safety and security.

The Chief Minister’s announcement is part of a broader strategy to dismantle illegal syndicates that threaten social and economic stability within West Bengal.
