Cricketer Abishek Porel, who plays for Bengal and the Delhi Capitals, was denied bail by the Chinsurah Court on Friday, August 14. He has been remanded to judicial custody for a duration of 14 days. This decision follows serious allegations against him pertaining to a complaint of sexual relations under the pretext of marriage and misconduct.

Background of the Allegations

Porel was first presented before the court on August 11, after being arrested by Mogra Police. The investigation into the allegations commenced after a female medical student from Karnataka filed a complaint on June 23. The complaint reportedly outlines a relationship between the two that spanned three and a half years, during which they discussed marriage and even travelled abroad together.

Reportedly, their relationship faced difficulties roughly 18 months ago, at which point police were brought in to mediate the situation. However, no formal complaint was filed at that time. Following the earlier disputes, authorities made several attempts to locate Porel at his residence in Chandannagar but faced challenges in tracing him.

After waiting for some time without resolution, the complainant approached the Calcutta High Court for intervention. The High Court directed Mogra Police to proceed with the arrest of Porel, stating that immediate action was necessary to address the allegations presented in the complaint.

Legal Proceedings and Current Status

Porel’s arrest took place in Kolkata, following the directive from the High Court. He faces charges under multiple legal provisions due to the seriousness of the allegations against him. After his initial remand in police custody came to an end, Porel was once again brought before the court, which resulted in the current order for judicial custody.

The court has scheduled a further hearing to continue the legal proceedings. Porel’s case has drawn significant attention, given his professional standing in the cricketing community. The judiciary is yet to determine the veracity of the allegations and the implications they bear on his career and personal life.

As the situation develops, both the legal team representing Porel and the authorities involved will prepare their proceedings for the upcoming hearings. Porel’s ongoing judicial custody will remain in effect until the next court date, pending additional review of the evidence and testimonies regarding the alleged misconduct.
