“Privileged”: Abhijeet Dipke Critiques Samay Raina’s ‘India’s Got Latent’

The CSR Journal Magazine

Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke has publicly expressed his views on the comedy talent show India’s Got Latent, stating he has no intention of participating. In a recent interview, he voiced his disagreement with the show, labelling it as indicative of a “privileged” perspective. His statements have prompted significant discussion on social media platforms.

In an episode of Unfiltered by Samdish, Dipke was asked about his favourite stand-up comedians and whether he would consider participating in the talent show. Responding in Hindi, he stated, “I will not go to India’s Got Latent. I don’t like it. Because the thinking that ‘Why should we fight? We should take the easy route and get out.’ You will be able to get out because you are privileged.” His comments soon gained momentum online, leading to varying reactions from users.

Many social media users reacted to Dipke’s claims about privilege. Some agreed with his standpoint, while others pointed out his background, emphasizing that Dipke had pursued a Master’s degree in Public Relations at Boston University in the United States. Their responses highlighted a perceived contradiction in his remarks.

Public Reaction to the Controversy

The reactions to Dipke’s comments varied widely. Some users highlighted the irony of a person who studied abroad calling himself oppressed. One user remarked, “Someone who studied in the US is calling themselves oppressed.” Others questioned his assertions of privilege, with comments such as “This guy studied in Boston, so stop giving us this everyone is privileged nonsense.” The discussion centred on whether Dipke’s background allowed him to critique others in a similar situation.

Diagrams of public opinion were further fuelled by comments alleging that Dipke’s current lifestyle contradicts his claims. One user pointedly asked if he was not privileged due to living abroad and enjoying a comfortable life while portraying himself as a victim. Such comments indicate a complex discourse regarding privilege and the narratives surrounding public figures.

India’s Got Latent and Previous Controversies

India’s Got Latent previously faced backlash after a controversial remark made by YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia towards a contestant. He posed a provocative question that drew widespread criticism for being offensive and inappropriate. This incident ignited debates regarding the boundaries of humour in entertainment media.

In response to the fallout, Samay Raina, the host of India’s Got Latent, addressed the controversy during his stand-up special Still Alive. He discussed the incident involving Allahbadia and the legal actions that followed, which included multiple FIRs filed. Raina recalled an encounter with a Mumbai police officer who suggested he should issue an apology.

Following the uproar, all episodes of India’s Got Latent Season 1 were removed from public platforms. However, the show returned with a new season on June 20, 2026. The premiere episode featured prominent actors Alia Bhatt and Sharvari as guests, attracting over 45 million views on YouTube and becoming a hit on Netflix, topping streaming charts for over a week.

Overview of CJP’s Mission

The Cockroach Janata Party was founded by political strategist Abhijeet Dipke in May 2026 as a satirical political movement. It emerged in reaction to comments by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, who likened unemployed youth and activists to “cockroaches.” The CJP has focused its efforts on pressing societal issues, including unemployment, examination irregularities, and accountability within public institutions.

Since its inception, the CJP has aimed to engage with youth and highlight the challenges they face in the current socio-political landscape. Dipke’s comments regarding privilege resonate with the organisation’s focus on addressing societal inequities and advocating for systemic change.
