A 21-year-old woman injured during the Cockroach Janata Party protest in New Delhi is reportedly showing significant improvement in her condition. The incident occurred on July 17, and she has since been receiving treatment at Dr Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital. Medical staff have successfully extubated her, allowing her to breathe independently. She is now conscious and responding to verbal commands.

The latest MRI scans of her brain and spine have indicated no abnormalities. According to hospital officials, her clinical condition has been on a positive trajectory since the commencement of her treatment. The medical team is providing comprehensive care while closely monitoring her progress. Currently, she is the only patient admitted to RML in relation to this incident.

Government Officials Visit Injured Protesters

On July 18, Union Health Minister JP Nadda visited RML Hospital to assess the situation of those injured during the protest march that escalated into violence. During his visit, he met with patients who had been admitted for their injuries and engaged with both the injured individuals and hospital staff. His intention was to ensure that adequate medical care is being offered.

Following discussions with the doctors regarding the treatment of the injured, Nadda expressed the government’s commitment to supporting those affected. He left the hospital after reviewing the medical arrangements in place for the patients. This visit was part of a broader effort by government officials to address the fallout from the protest.

Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, along with Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, also visited the hospital to meet the injured protesters. Their presence highlights the political implications of the protest and the injuries sustained by participants.

Details of the Protest and Police Response

The protest held by the Cockroach Janata Party on July 17 was characterised by clashes between protesters and Delhi Police, leading to violence. Officials reported that more than 118 police personnel sustained injuries during these confrontations, with approximately 60 protesters also reportedly injured. The situation escalated when some protesters allegedly threw stones and attempted to breach barricades.

In light of the violence, Delhi Police have initiated actions against unidentified individuals connected to vandalism and stone-pelting incidents in and around Connaught Place and Parliament Street. FIRs have been registered, signalling the authorities’ commitment to addressing the disturbances that occurred during the protests.

The police have stated that there was significant damage to public property, along with vandalisation of both police and government vehicles during the clashes. Authorities are continuing their investigations and monitoring the situation following the unrest.
