Woman Delivers Standing at Telangana Hospital, Newborn Suffers Injuries After Fall

The CSR Journal Magazine

A woman delivered her baby while standing beside a hospital bed at a government-run Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Centre in Telangana’s Bhadradri Kothagudem district after medical staff allegedly failed to respond in time. The newborn reportedly suffered a head injury after falling to the floor, while the mother experienced heavy bleeding, leading to allegations of medical negligence.

The incident occurred at the Government MCH Centre in Kothagudem, where the woman, identified as Bhavani from Dammapet, had been admitted for the birth of her first child. While her family accused hospital staff of failing to provide timely assistance, the hospital denied any negligence, saying medical personnel had not been informed that she had entered active labour.

Family Alleges Delay in Medical Assistance

According to Bhavani’s family members and eyewitnesses, she repeatedly complained of severe labour pain but did not receive prompt attention from doctors or nursing staff.

Unable to bear the pain any longer, she reportedly stood beside her hospital bed and delivered the baby before any medical personnel arrived to assist her.

The family alleged that the newborn fell to the floor immediately after birth and suffered a head injury. They also claimed that nurses reached the spot only several minutes later, by which time Bhavani had experienced excessive bleeding, causing panic among other pregnant women admitted to the ward.

Patients Demand Action

Attendants and other patients at the hospital accused the staff of failing to properly monitor expectant mothers and demanded action against those responsible for the alleged lapse.

The incident triggered protests by Bhavani’s relatives inside the hospital premises, prompting police to reach the facility to defuse the situation. Officers held discussions with both the family members and hospital authorities.

Hospital Rejects Negligence Allegations

Hospital authorities denied the allegations, maintaining that there had been no negligence on the part of the medical staff.

According to the doctors, Bhavani did not inform doctors or nurses that she had gone into active labour. They said she would have been immediately attended to and shifted for delivery had the staff been alerted in time.

The hospital said both the mother and the newborn received medical treatment following the incident and that the baby’s condition was being closely monitored.

Authorities are expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the delivery. The allegations of medical negligence remain under inquiry.
