A family in Chittorgarh, Rajasthan, has accused a private hospital of leaving a surgical mop inside a woman following a Caesarean section, which they assert led to severe health complications and multiple additional surgeries. This allegation has prompted serious concerns about hospital practices and patient care standards.

Jaya Choudhary reportedly underwent a Caesarean delivery at Daksh Hospital in Kumbha Nagar on May 2. After a four-day stay, both Jaya and her newborn were discharged on May 6. Initially, the family noted that Jaya seemed to recover well, but shortly thereafter, she began experiencing severe abdominal pain, fever, and vomiting.

On May 9, when the surgical stitches were removed, the family informed the attending doctor about Jaya’s ongoing pain. However, they allege that these symptoms were dismissed as normal post-operative reactions. Despite continuing discomfort, Jaya received further treatment from local medical practitioners and another hospital, where an infection was identified without having its source established.

Further Complications and Transfer to Zydus Hospital

As Jaya’s health deteriorated, her family decided to transfer her to Zydus Hospital in Ahmedabad on June 24. Subsequent CT scans and examinations at the Ahmedabad facility reportedly revealed that a surgical mop had been left inside her abdomen during the Caesarean operation. This retained object allegedly resulted in a serious infection that also affected her large intestine.

The family claims that following the discovery, doctors conducted another operation on June 27 to remove the surgical mop and to address the damage to the intestine. They argue that this incident has drastically altered their lives, both emotionally and financially.

According to the family, they have incurred medical expenses nearing Rs 15 lakh. They further remarked on the impact this has had on Jaya’s ability to nurse her newborn, as well as her ongoing struggle with recovery, which may necessitate additional surgery.

Hospital Responds to Allegations

In light of these serious allegations, Krishnakant Choudhary, Jaya’s brother-in-law, took to social media to share a video accusing Daksh Hospital of negligence and demanding accountability. The video has reportedly gained considerable traction and brought significant attention to the case.

The family also highlighted that this incident is not the first controversy involving Daksh Hospital. They noted previous complaints made against the institution in February 2026 regarding irregularities related to the Ayushman Bharat scheme, billing discrepancies, and allegations of patient mismanagement. Despite calls for investigations into these matters, the family claims that no substantial actions were undertaken.

In response to the family’s allegations, Dr Abhishek, the hospital’s CEO, has categorically denied any wrongdoing. He maintained that Jaya was discharged in good health and claimed that she had not returned to the hospital thereafter to report any complications. Dr Abhishek asserted that such an error would be impossible under their current procedures.
