Chhattisgarh CM Sai Emphasises Rural Growth Under GRAM Ji Yojana

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai recently expressed support for the Viksit Bharat GRAM Ji Yojana, which was officially launched on July 1. The Chief Minister referred to this initiative as instrumental in achieving the objective of a developed India. He emphasised that the programme aims to strengthen livelihoods, construct essential rural infrastructure, and create employment opportunities in the state.

Financial Commitment and Employment Provisions

During a press interaction, CM Sai announced that the Central Government has earmarked Rs 551 crore for the GRAM Ji Yojana for the financial year 2026-27. He indicated that Chhattisgarh has already benefited from Rs 1,593 crore allocated under this scheme thus far. Additionally, the programme is designed to provide registered workers with 125 days of employment each year, thereby ensuring a stable source of income for participants.

The scheme encompasses a total of 318 different types of works aimed at various areas, including water conservation, infrastructure development, and livelihood enhancement. Other critical sectors addressed by the programme include climate change mitigation, animal husbandry, drainage, and forest fire prevention. Such diverse activities aim to promote sustainable development in rural regions.

CM Sai also mentioned that the timely disbursement of wages to workers will be a priority. He highlighted that Rs 450 crore has been allocated under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), with Rs 395 crore already disbursed, thereby assuring financial support to labourers involved in the programme.

Key Campaigns Under the GRAM Ji Yojana

In his address, Chief Minister Sai outlined three specific campaigns that will be undertaken as part of the GRAM Ji Yojana between August 15, 2026, and January 26, 2027. One of the primary initiatives, titled “Meri Beti Mera Abhiman,” aims to construct toilets for girls in 6,671 government schools. Each facility will be built at an estimated cost of Rs 4.30 lakh, thereby reinforcing the commitment to improving hygiene and sanitation for female students.

The second campaign focuses on the construction of 549 Muktidhams and waiting sheds throughout the state. With a projected expenditure of Rs 391.44 crore, this initiative aims to provide essential infrastructure for communities, aiming for completion by January 26, 2027. Such projects are crucial for ensuring safe and dignified spaces for social gatherings.

Lastly, the “Mor Gaon Mor Pani” campaign aims to address water scarcity through extensive conservation efforts. Currently, over 50,000 water conservation works are already in progress, further highlighting the state’s proactive approach to managing natural resources. Additionally, 10,027 recharge wells are set to be constructed for hand pumps that have dried up, thereby improving groundwater recharge and sustainability in rural areas.
