Who Will Replace Champat Rai and Anil Mishra Amid Ram Mandir Donation Theft Row?

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust is poised to undergo significant leadership changes as it prepares to accept the resignations of former General Secretary Champat Rai and trustee Anil Mishra. This comes in the wake of an ongoing controversy surrounding allegations of theft related to donations for the Ram temple. A crucial meeting was convened inside the Ram Mandir complex in Ayodhya on July 6, 2026, where trustees deliberated on the implications of this high-profile case.

At the meeting, which was chaired by Trust President Mahant Nritya Gopal Das, both Rai and Mishra were notably absent. Sources indicate that the focus ranged from the fallout of the donation theft case to the future administrative framework of the trust. The treasurer, Swami Govind Dev Giri, presented the resignations of both officials, thereby creating vacancies in the governance of the temple’s affairs.

This leadership shift comes at a critical time for the trust, which must work to restore public confidence following the scandal. Stakeholders are now closely watching who will emerge as potential successors to Rai and Mishra, as these appointments could shape the trust’s direction moving forward.

Frontal Contenders for Leadership Roles

Among the prominent candidates for key leadership positions is Bajrang Bagra, the International General Secretary of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP). Sources have identified him as a leading contender to fill the vacancy left by Champat Rai. Bagra, who hails from Sikar district in Rajasthan and has been serving as VHP’s Central (International) General Secretary since February 2024, brings considerable financial expertise and administrative experience to the table. His background includes roles as Director (Finance) and Chief Financial Officer at NALCO and RITES Ltd.

Another frontrunner is Neeraj Dauneria, the National Convenor of the Bajrang Dal, the youth organisation affiliated with the VHP. Dauneria has a longstanding association with the Sangh Parivar and has engaged in various outreach initiatives linked to the Ram Janmabhoomi movement. His grassroots mobilisation skills and dedication to Hindu causes make him a well-known figure within the network of groups linked to the Ram Temple initiative.

Furthermore, Krishna Mohan, a retired Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer, is also being considered for a position within the trust. His prior roles in government have enabled him to acquire essential administrative and conservation skills. Additionally, his involvement with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in eastern Uttar Pradesh has further solidified his leadership experience, which could be instrumental for the trust in enhancing accountability and oversight.

Meeting Addresses Administrative Concerns

Govind Dev Giri underscored the importance of bolstering oversight mechanisms to prevent similar incidents in the future. Many present echoed this sentiment, agreeing that it is crucial to rebuild trust among followers. This commitment to transparency and governance is expected to be a priority as the trust begins to identify new leaders following the resignations.

The attention to accountability and reform is essential as the trust navigates this tumultuous period, reaffirming its dedication to addressing the concerns of its supporters and restoring faith in its governance system.
