VCK Unveils Election Manifesto Ahead of Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) has recently disclosed its election manifesto for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections scheduled for April 23, 2026. The primary highlight of the manifesto is the commitment to allocate 50 per cent reservation for women across various sectors. This announcement was made by VCK president Thol. Thirumavalavan during a ceremony held at the party’s headquarters in Chennai on April 14.

Thirumavalavan noted that the manifesto is centred around twelve significant areas addressing governance and social issues. He emphasised the urgent need for a bilingual policy in the state and proposed the enactment of a dedicated law aimed at preventing honour killings. Furthermore, he advocated for enhancements within the healthcare and educational systems as crucial components of the party’s agenda.

The upcoming elections will cover a total of 234 constituencies in Tamil Nadu, with the vote counting scheduled for May 4. Thirumavalavan stated that the VCK’s approach is fundamentally aimed at driving social transformation based on ideological principles.

Criticism of the BJP and Parliamentary Conduct

During the manifesto launch, Thirumavalavan directed criticism towards the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), claiming the party is pursuing a conservative agenda. He alleged that the BJP is attempting to implement the concept of “One Nation, One Culture” across India. He expressed concerns regarding a special parliamentary session on women’s reservation and delimitation, suggesting the timing is suspicious as it coincides with election periods in several states.

Thirumavalavan asserted that the current parliamentary session raises questions over the integrity of the opposition, suggesting that it may be structured to disadvantage opposition members. He recommended that discussions on these subjects should be postponed until after the elections, citing a lack of transparency regarding proposed bills or discussions.

Additionally, he accused the Election Commission of lacking independence, alleging that it operates under the influence of the BJP. He pointed to recent changes involving high-ranking officials, asserting that such actions have historically not occurred and criticising the BJP-led government for purportedly misusing the Election Commission to its advantage.

Internal Dynamics Within Alliances

Addressing internal dynamics within the political alliances, Thirumavalavan clarified that there is no discord with DMDK leader Premalatha Vijayakanth. He remarked that the expectation was for Chief Minister MK Stalin to make critical announcements as the leader of the alliance. He added that any suggestions of tension are unfounded and highlighted the lack of resentment among party members.

Additionally, Thirumavalavan commented on the political strategies of actor Vijay, indicating that his actions may inadvertently support rival parties such as the AIADMK and BJP. He accused Vijay of undermining the DMK’s position while strengthening the opposition alliance. He suggested that Vijay’s calls to remove the DMK serve to bolster the standing of the AIADMK-BJP coalition.

The upcoming elections are anticipated to present a significant contest between the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance, which includes the Indian National Congress, DMDK, and VCK, against the National Democratic Alliance led by the AIADMK, with BJP and PMK as partners. Notably, actor/ politician Vijay is also expected to enter the electoral fray with his party, TVK, contributing to what may be a three-way competition.
