Uttar Pradesh Government Launches Crackdown on Illegal Coaching Centres

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Uttar Pradesh government has initiated an extensive campaign aimed at regulating coaching institutes within the state, primarily to enhance student safety and ensure accountability among educational providers. Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay emphasised that the government will not permit any negligence or irregular management in the sector.

District Magistrates across various districts have been tasked with conducting comprehensive surveys and compiling lists of all coaching centres currently operating in their respective areas. This initiative is designed to identify unregistered centres and enforce the Uttar Pradesh Coaching Regulation Act, 2002.

Strict Actions Against Unregistered Institutes

According to official mandates, severe measures will be implemented against coaching institutes discovered to be functioning without proper registration. The government asserts that such unregistered centres frequently ignore safety protocols, thereby endangering students. This systematic crackdown is aimed at safeguarding the wellbeing of the student population, which is particularly vulnerable in these environments.

Additionally, registered coaching institutes are also under scrutiny. The authorities are undertaking safety audits to assess the structural integrity of buildings, fire safety measures, electrical systems, and basic infrastructural amenities. Compliance with existing regulations will be rigorously monitored to ensure adherence to prescribed standards.

A directive issued by Special Secretary (Higher Education) Nidhi Srivastava has instructed district officials to engage in ongoing inspection initiatives. The officials aim to evaluate whether institutions are providing necessary facilities while maintaining adequate administrative practices.

Commitment to Student Welfare and Organised Education

Minister Upadhyay has articulated the commitment of the Yogi government toward creating a “safe, organised and reliable educational environment” for students preparing for higher education and competitive examinations. He reiterated that the interests of students and parents remain paramount in the government’s agenda.

The minister further underscored that the government’s objective is to achieve 100 per cent compliance with established standards across all coaching institutes in Uttar Pradesh. He stated unequivocally, “No form of irregularity or negligence will be tolerated,” indicating a zero-tolerance policy toward non-compliance.

Officials also indicated that this initiative will not merely be a singular enforcement campaign; instead, it will involve a continuous monitoring framework. Teams at the district level will systematically inspect the institutes and maintain updated compliance records.

Moreover, the government has highlighted the importance of inter-departmental coordination to ensure consistent enforcement of rules and regulations. Authorities believe this systematic approach will enhance transparency within the rapidly expanding coaching sector, which is a crucial element in preparing students for competitive examinations across Uttar Pradesh.
