Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare and Chemicals & Fertilisers JP Nadda is set to unveil several digital health initiatives aimed at enhancing India’s healthcare landscape on June 29. This announcement is a key step in developing a robust digital health ecosystem, focusing on increasing accessibility, interoperability, and the adoption of digital health solutions across the country. The event will gather representatives from state governments, healthcare leaders, technology partners, and relevant stakeholders.

These initiatives have been developed under the guidance of the National Health Authority (NHA) and the National Resource Centre for EHR Standards (NRCeS). They aim to streamline healthcare services and provide a unified platform for health-related information exchange, facilitating a network of connected healthcare services across India.

Overview of Key Initiatives

Among the prominent features of this launch is the Aarogya Setu 2.0 application, which serves as a Personal Health Record Application for citizens. This revamped platform, which gained prominence during the COVID-19 pandemic, is designed to integrate multiple digital health services for easy access through a single interface. Users will be able to manage their Ayushman Bharat Health Accounts (ABHA), access digital health records, and engage in consent-based sharing of health information.

The new features of Aarogya Setu 2.0 include AI-driven health insights, smart health reports, the ability to register for outpatient services via a scan-and-register feature, and make hospital payments through a scan-and-pay option. Furthermore, it facilitates the identification of nearby healthcare facilities, doctors, ambulance services, and blood banks, while also providing access to PM-JAY services like hospital searches and details about the Ayushman CAPF policy.

The Ayushman App is another critical component of this initiative. The updated application will offer a digital platform for beneficiaries of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY). This will include services such as eligibility verification, treatment history, hospital discovery, and grievance redressal, streamlining access to essential services across the healthcare network.

Further Digital Innovations for Health Sector

In addition to citizen-facing applications, the launch will encompass a variety of innovations aimed at enhancing healthcare delivery and interoperability. A notable addition is the National Health Claims Exchange (NHCX), which will facilitate the standardised processing of health claims between providers and insurance payers. This platform aims to reduce administrative burdens and accelerate claims processing through seamless information exchange.

The National Health Authority will also introduce a utility for converting insurance plans into standardised FHIR bundles, enhancing the consistency and efficiency of health claims data. Meanwhile, the Unified Health Interface (UHI) will create an interoperable network enabling digital applications to connect citizens with healthcare providers more readily, thus promoting better access to health services.

Another pivotal element is the e-Sushrut Clinic, designed for healthcare providers to digitise their clinical workflows effectively. This solution will integrate with the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission ecosystem, making it easier for facilities to adopt digital health technologies and improve patient care delivery.

The launch will also debut the Drug Registry, which aims to standardise medicine information across healthcare applications, thereby improving data exchange and interoperability. Lastly, the introduction of the Common LOINC Codes for India (CLCI), a customised standard for laboratory data exchange, will help maintain consistency and enhance clinical decision-making throughout the health system.
