Union Health Minister JP Nadda visited Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital on July 21, to meet individuals who sustained injuries during the recent police action related to the CJP protest. This visit followed a march towards Parliament that turned violent, resulting in injuries among both protesters and police personnel. Upon arrival, Nadda engaged with those receiving treatment, showing concern for their well-being.

During his visit, Nadda also convened a meeting with the medical staff to assess the condition of the injured and the treatment they were receiving. He aimed to ensure that adequate medical care was provided to all those affected. After concluding his discussions and reviewing the situation, Nadda left the hospital.

Protest Results in Violent Clashes and Injuries

The protest led by the CJP on July 20 escalated into clashes involving the police, with reports indicating that over 118 police personnel were injured during the confrontations. Additionally, around 60 protesters also reportedly suffered injuries. The Delhi Police stated that demonstrators allegedly engaged in stone-pelting and attempted to breach barricades, contributing to the chaos.

Authorities have initiated investigations into the incidents, registering FIRs against unidentified individuals for their involvement in acts of vandalism and stone-throwing, particularly in areas such as Connaught Place and Parliament Street. The situation marked a significant escalation in tensions between the protesting group and law enforcement agencies.

After the protest, CJP’s leadership met with Union Health Minister JP Nadda to present their demands, which included the resignation of the Education Minister and financial compensation of Rs 1 crore for the families of NEET aspirants who have died. The CJP also called for the immediate release of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, who had been undergoing treatment at Safdarjung Hospital.

Medical Status of Sonam Wangchuk

Sonam Wangchuk, who initiated a hunger strike at Jantar Mantar, remains under medical care at Safdarjung Hospital. He was brought in by Delhi Police on July 18, following concerns over his health while protesting for the resignation of the Education Minister related to the NEET exam paper leak situation. As per the latest hospital reports, Wangchuk’s vital signs are stable, although his blood sugar levels are reportedly lower than normal.

The hospital has provided updates stating that Wangchuk is currently receiving oral rehydration therapy and potassium supplements. However, he has declined intravenous fluids and glucose, despite medical professionals advising otherwise. Medical staff are continuing to monitor his health closely to ensure his recovery.

Wangchuk’s ongoing protest and subsequent medical treatment illustrate the intense emotions surrounding the NEET exam and the issues raised during the CJP protest. As tensions in the area remain high, both the government and the protesting groups are urged to seek de-escalation and resolution of their disputes.
