Trump Says Iran Peace Deal Could Be Finalised This Weekend, Signing May Take Place in Europe

The CSR Journal Magazine

US President Donald Trump on Thursday said a peace agreement with Iran could be finalised as early as this weekend, with the formal signing potentially taking place in Europe.

Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump said the two sides were in the process of completing the necessary documents and expressed confidence that the agreement would be concluded within the next few days.

“We’re going to be subject to the finalisation of documents. We should get done over the next few days. We’ll probably have a signing, maybe in Europe,” Trump said.

He stated that Iran’s Supreme Leader had approved the terms of the agreement and confirmed that the United States would lift the blockade immediately after the deal was signed. According to Trump, the move would lead to a sharp decline in global oil prices.

Iran Agrees To Forego Nuclear Weapons, Says Trump

Trump asserted that Iran had agreed not to develop, acquire or purchase nuclear weapons under the proposed agreement, describing the issue as one of the central objectives of the negotiations.

He said Tehran had committed not to possess a nuclear weapon “in any way, shape or form”, adding that preventing Iran from obtaining such capabilities had been a key priority for Washington.

Expressing optimism about the prospects of the agreement, Trump claimed recent US actions had increased pressure on Iran and encouraged Tehran to seek a settlement.

He described the accord as beneficial not only for the United States and the wider Middle East but also for Iran itself, saying it would enable the country to focus on rebuilding its economy.

Trump Speaks Of New Iranian Leadership

The US President also suggested that recent developments had resulted in what he described as a de facto change in Iran’s leadership structure.

According to Trump, the current leadership was more pragmatic and rational than those who previously held power. He claimed that the United States had eliminated the first and second tiers of leadership and that a different group had now emerged.

Trump said everyone involved had approved the agreement and voiced confidence that the final stage of the process would be completed soon.

He reiterated that Iran would neither possess nor seek to acquire nuclear weapons under the terms being negotiated.

Memorandum Of Understanding Backed By Influential Countries

Describing the arrangement as a “very strong memorandum of understanding”, Trump said the framework was detailed and had the support of several countries that held significant influence over Iran.

He acknowledged that some aspects of the agreement remained conceptual but insisted that all parties were eager to conclude the process.

According to Trump, Iran wanted the deal as much as, if not more than, the United States. He said influential countries involved in the discussions also favoured the agreement and expressed confidence that the accord would ultimately be signed.

The remarks come amid renewed diplomatic efforts aimed at easing tensions between Washington and Tehran and reviving broader discussions surrounding Iran’s nuclear programme and regional stability.
