Trump Claims China Compromised US Election Data, Orders Intelligence Files Released

The CSR Journal Magazine

US President Donald Trump on Friday claimed that China carried out what he described as the “largest compromise of election data in history” during the 2020 US presidential election and announced the immediate declassification of intelligence documents that he said expose serious weaknesses in America’s election infrastructure.

Speaking from the White House in a televised address, Trump alleged that the newly released intelligence records reveal long-hidden vulnerabilities in the US election system and show how the Chinese government gained access to sensitive voter information. He did not provide evidence to support the claims during the address.

Trump Announces Declassification of Intelligence

Announcing the decision, Trump said the intelligence material would be released immediately to make public what he described as critical information about the country’s election infrastructure.

“Tonight, I’m announcing the immediate declassification and release of critical intelligence, revealing shocking vulnerabilities in our election infrastructure,” Trump said.

Claims Over Voter Information

Trump alleged that the information accessed by China included names, home addresses, telephone numbers, political party affiliations and other data linked to voter registration.

“That information includes names, addresses, phone numbers, political party preferences and other sensitive data that would be needed to register to vote and engage in other nefarious activities,” he said.

Allegations of Election System Vulnerabilities

The US President further claimed that the declassified material demonstrates that the country’s election system was susceptible to hacking, exploitation and foreign interference.

“This evidence shows that the election system we have dangerously exposes… to hacking, exploitation and foreign interference. Just as disturbingly, this vital information has for many years been covered up and hidden from you,” Trump said.

Trump maintained that the intelligence documents reveal vulnerabilities that had been concealed from the public for years. The White House announcement did not include additional details beyond the President’s remarks.
