In a significant breakthrough, the West Bengal Special Task Force (STF) arrested Trinamool Congress MLA Dilip Mondal on Wednesday. The legislator, who had been evading authorities for weeks, was tracked down to a luxury hotel in Odisha’s coastal town of Puri.

The Midnight Raid

Mondal had reportedly been hiding in Puri for the past 13 days, frequently switching between various hotels to mask his location. Following a precise tip-off and electronic surveillance, the STF narrowed his location to *Hotel Blue Lily*.

In a coordinated strike, officers took Mondal into custody. He was not alone; his son was also arrested during the operation. Both are currently being brought back to Kolkata on a transit remand for further interrogation.

Allegations of Incitement and Violence

The legal net tightened around the Bishnupur MLA following the recent Assembly elections. Mondal came under fire after a video of his public address went viral. In the footage, he allegedly issued chilling threats against opposition supporters, specifically targeting BJP workers.

The primary allegations include:

* Inciting Arson: Threatening to burn down the homes and properties of political rivals.
* Social Displacement: Declaring that those who voted for the opposition would no longer be permitted to reside in the Bishnupur area.
* Provocation: Using inflammatory language to spark post-poll unrest.

From “Palace” to Prison

Mondal recently grabbed headlines when images of his lavish residence described by many as a “palatial resort” complete with an internal cave-like structure surfaced on social media. The sheer opulence of the property raised questions regarding his sources of income.

“The investigation will not only focus on the provocative remarks but will also probe the acquisition of his massive assets,” a source close to the investigation stated.

The Bengal STF is expected to produce Mondal before a Kolkata court tomorrow. While the immediate charges center on his inflammatory speeches and criminal intimidation, officials indicate that a broader investigation into his financial dealings and “palace-like” properties is likely to follow.

The TMC leadership has yet to release an official statement regarding the arrest of the MLA and his son.
