Thunderstorms and Hail Forecasted for Delhi-NCR and Haryana

The CSR Journal Magazine

Residents in parts of Delhi-NCR, Haryana, and Rajasthan are anticipated to receive relief from the recent heatwave as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast for thunderstorms, hail, and moderate rainfall on Tuesday. This change in weather comes after several days of rising temperatures and scorching heat across the region.

The IMD’s latest update indicates that multiple districts in Haryana, including Hisar, Hansi, Rohtak, Rewari, Bawal, and Nuh, are likely to experience hailstorms and thunderstorms. Similar weather patterns are expected in neighbouring sections of Rajasthan, particularly Bhiwadi and Tijara. The meteorological department has highlighted the possibility of gusty winds reaching speeds of 50-70 kmph along with lightning during this weather event.

As the storms approach, residents are advised to exercise caution, particularly during thunderstorm conditions. The IMD recommends avoiding shelter under isolated trees or near electric poles, given the potential risks associated with strong winds and lightning strikes.

Farmers Advised to Take Precautions

The anticipated thunderstorms are part of ongoing intense pre-monsoon weather activity in northwestern India. This setup is created by strong daytime heating, coupled with the influx of moisture from the Arabian Sea, which induces the development of severe thunderstorms in the area. Meteorologists predict localized hailstorms, which may provide some temporary respite from the heat.

While the weather activity may offer brief relief, it also poses risks, particularly to agriculture. The hail and strong winds may result in damage to standing crops, orchards, vehicles, and temporary structures. In light of these forecasts, farmers are urged to take necessary precautions to safeguard their harvested produce and agricultural equipment from possible weather-related harm.

Additionally, the combination of harsh winds and lightning could disrupt power supply and impede traffic movement in the affected districts. Authorities have been alerted to prepare for potential impacts on infrastructure and services in anticipation of the storms.

Ongoing Weather Trends in Northern India

This upcoming weather phenomenon forms part of a wider pattern of pre-monsoon thunderstorms that are currently affecting several states in northern India. Such systems frequently develop rapidly during summer months when hot surface temperatures interact with incoming moist air and existing atmospheric instability.

Although the thunderstorms are predicted to lower temperatures temporarily, weather experts caution that this relief may be short-lived. It is likely that the heat will return once the storm activity subsides. Moreover, forecasts suggest that additional spells of rain and thunderstorms will occur across northwestern India in forthcoming days, indicating a continued cycle of weather changes in the region.

The IMD’s advisories will be closely monitored, and residents are encouraged to stay informed about further weather developments in the coming hours and days. The organisation aims to provide timely updates to help mitigate any potential hazards arising from these anticipated weather conditions.
