On July 23, 2026, Supreme Court lawyers conducted a protest entitled “Save Democracy, Save Constitution” at Jantar Mantar, supporting the Cockroach Janata Party agitation concerning the alleged NEET-UG paper leak. The protest aimed to amplify calls for justice on behalf of the affected students.

Senior Advocate Indira Jaising led the gathering, facilitating a reading of the Preamble in the Supreme Court lawns. Jaising expressed solidarity with the students, emphasising that their cause was not about the legal community, but rather about advocating for students’ rights and seeking justice within the legal framework.

Former Chief Justice of Orissa High Court, S Muralidhar, also participated, affirming the lawyers’ commitment to supporting the students protesting for their rights. His remarks underscored the importance of justice for those affected by the paper leak allegations.

Government’s Response To Protests

The protests have intensified in New Delhi and various other cities following the Cockroach Janata Party’s Chalo Sansad march on July 20. In response to the escalating demonstrations, police actions were documented, resulting in at least ten FIRs being registered against participants.

Union Minister Jitendra Singh responded to the unrest, reaffirming the Central Government’s dedication to dialogue with student representatives. He stated that multiple formal invitations for discussions had been offered to the students, emphasising an openness to address their concerns without being affected by ‘prestige’ issues.

Singh, who holds the position of Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s office, highlighted that discussions could take place at a convenient time and location, including either his office or the residence of Union Health Minister JP Nadda. He urged students to engage in dialogue to reach a resolution collaboratively.

Commitment To Address Paper Leak Concerns

Amidst the protests, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the establishment of fast-track courts aimed at expediting justice and imposing strict penalties on individuals implicated in paper leak incidents. This announcement signifies the government’s proactive approach in addressing the ongoing issues surrounding the examination integrity.

Saurav Das, Chief Spokesperson for the Cockroach Janata Party, stated that he had yet to receive any communication from the government about the proposed talks. He expressed the party’s willingness to meet at Jantar Mantar or another neutral location to discuss the prevailing concerns.

The situation remains dynamic as both student representatives and government officials express differing perspectives. As protests continue, the focus remains on finding solutions that are satisfactory for the student bodies involved. The commitment to resolution by all parties involved is being closely monitored as developments unfold.
