On June 18, Pune realtor Ketan Agarwal was reportedly unaware of the impending tragedy as he stood at the edge of Lohagad Fort. His fiancée, Siya Goyal, allegedly signalled to her partner, Chetan Chaudhary, by sitting down, which prompted him to approach and push the unsuspecting 25-year-old into a gorge. This information was disclosed by police on Thursday during the interrogation of both suspects.

During questioning, it became apparent that both Siya and Chetan initially attempted to deflect blame onto one another, a behaviour found frequently among individuals involved in criminal activities. However, Siya ultimately confessed to her role in the premeditated murder while Chetan also acknowledged his involvement in the planning stages, according to a police official overseeing the case.

In the initial stages of the investigation, Chaudhary, aged 22, asserted his presence at the fort but claimed he had not been in the vicinity of the spot where Agarwal was pushed. However, police deemed his statements to be untruthful. Further rigorous questioning led to the revelation of the sequence of events, clarifying their systematic plotting.

Execution of the Plan

The authorities stated that the couple had devised a straightforward yet lethal plan before arriving at the fort. The arrangement stipulated that Siya would signal by sitting down, allowing Chetan to execute the fatal act against Ketan. Police confirmed that the duo successfully enacted this chilling plan.

According to police notes, Siya and Chetan detailed the incidents leading up to the tragic event. Ketan was pushed into the gorge completely unaware of the danger he faced. The official remarked that the execution was swift, leaving Ketan with no opportunity for response or escape.

Investigators also probed the motives behind the couple’s choice to murder Agarwal instead of opting to elope, to which they stated that such an action would risk bringing shame to their families.
