SIT to Submit Final Report on Ram Mandir Donations in 24-48 Hours

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) tasked with examining the alleged misappropriation of donations at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya is expected to present its final report to the Uttar Pradesh government within the next 24 to 48 hours. Sources indicate that this submission may occur on Thursday or Friday, emphasising the urgency of the matter. The SIT has reportedly been working within a strict timeline, having received a 15-day extension on July 1 to further its investigations.

Details of the Preliminary Findings

According to a preliminary report, the SIT identified approximately seventy suspicious incidents recorded on CCTV between April 27 and June 5, 2026. Footage allegedly shows certain personnel engaging in questionable activities, including the concealment of large sums of cash. The report highlights significant lapses in procedure, noting inadequate security measures such as the absence of thorough checks at entry and exit points, along with poor management of personal belongings. These lapses are seen as factors facilitating the alleged embezzlement.

Additionally, the report indicates that around Rs 78.94 lakh was recovered from various employees prior to the investigation. On June 4, 2026, an additional sum of Rs 2.25 lakh was reportedly found in a bathroom adjacent to the counting room. Despite these findings, the SIT asserted that there is currently no prima facie evidence corroborating claims circulating on social media regarding the disappearance of valuable items such as silver bricks.

Judicial Developments and Ongoing Proceedings

In relation to the ongoing investigation, an Ayodhya court extended the judicial custody of eight individuals accused in the Ram Mandir donation embezzlement case by an additional 14 days on July 15. The accused made their appearance via video conferencing, with their next court appearance scheduled for July 27. This extension signifies the continuation of legal proceedings as the investigation unfolds.

Moreover, the Supreme Court has intervened by issuing notices to the Government of India, the Uttar Pradesh government, and the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. This response follows petitions calling for an independent, court-monitored investigation into the alleged misappropriation of funds directed towards the Ram Temple. The Supreme Court bench, which includes Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, has instructed the SIT to provide a status report detailing its composition and the progress made thus far.

As a result of allegations pertaining to the misuse of donations, the trust has witnessed a series of high-profile resignations. Notably, the then General Secretary Champat Rai, along with trust members Anil Mishra and Gopal Rao, has resigned amid the investigation. These departures reflect the trust’s attempts to address the fallout from the allegations and maintain transparency as the inquiry continues.
