Shiv Sena (UBT) Issues Show-Cause Notices to Absent MPs Following Parliamentary Meeting

The CSR Journal Magazine

Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) has formally issued show-cause notices to several Members of Parliament (MPs) who did not attend a vital parliamentary party meeting held on June 18. The move has come amid increasing speculation that a faction of MPs from Shiv Sena (UBT) may defect to the rival Shiv Sena faction. Party MP Anil Desai confirmed that those absent have been notified to provide an explanation for their non-attendance.

Desai highlighted that disciplinary measures were initiated during the meeting and emphasised that all absent MPs would be required to respond to the notices. He remarked, “The meeting just got over, show-cause notice was sent today.” When asked about the nature of the actions to be taken against those who missed the meeting, Desai reiterated that the primary step involves issuing the show-cause notice to ascertain their reasons for non-participation.

Absentee MPs and Defections Speculated

According to reports, six MPs reportedly did not attend the meeting, which took place at the party’s Parliamentary office in New Delhi. This gathering occurred amidst heightened speculation surrounding potential defections, referred to as “Operation Tiger.” Senior leader Sanjay Raut made strong statements regarding the consequences for those who fail to attend, labelling them as “traitors.”

Sanjay Raut was present at the meeting alongside all nine Shiv Sena (UBT) Lok Sabha MPs, including prominent figures like Arvind Sawant and Anil Desai. Raut’s assertive comments underlined the party’s commitment to accountability, stating, “Those who attend are ours; those who do not are dishonest and traitors.”

During this meeting, a three-line whip was reportedly issued to all party MPs, instructing their attendance at the significant gathering. The leadership has demonstrated a unified front regarding party discipline and has taken definitive measures to ensure attendance by all members.

Consequences of Non-Attendance

The questions posed to the absent MPs will revolve around their prior notifications regarding the meeting. Desai pointed out that the party had communicated details through various channels, including messages and WhatsApp notifications. MPs who chose not to attend without any prior explanation will be scrutinised regarding their absence, as Desai stated, “You received it too. And you didn’t give any reason if you were coming or not, so your absence will be looked at that way.”

As the political landscape shifts, the Shiv Sena (UBT) remains vigilant about maintaining its unity and ensuring that party discipline is upheld. The actions taken by senior leaders indicate a proactive approach to prevent further fragmentation within the ranks. The party is keen on retaining its MPs as speculation around defection persists, threatening its stability.

In accordance with party protocols, the Shiv Sena (UBT) aims to address any potential issues immediately as it focuses on fostering a cohesive party image in Parliament. As political dynamics evolve, the outcome of these notices and the reactions from the absent MPs could significantly impact future discussions within the party.
