Sakti Power Plant Blast Resulting Death Toll Reaches 23

The explosion at the Sakti Power Plant in Chhattisgarh has led to a tragic increase in the death toll, which now stands at 23. Additionally, 13 individuals are reported to be injured and receiving medical care in various facilities. The incident occurred on April 18, leading to an investigation and legal action against the management of Vedanta Power Plant, as per local officials.

According to Sakti Superintendent of Police Prafull Thakur, the blast originated from a boiler at the plant and has raised significant concerns regarding safety protocols. The initial report states that 20 lives were lost immediately, with the casualty count increasing as the situation evolved. The police have registered an FIR against those deemed responsible, prompting a thorough investigation.

The injured victims are currently being treated in multiple hospitals, with reports indicating that 15 of them are in critical condition. Authorities are closely monitoring progress to ensure appropriate support is extended.

Government Response and Investigations

In response to the tragic event, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has directed an official investigation into the incident. This decision aims to ascertain the causes of the boiler blast and the liabilities involved. Following the guidelines provided by the Chief Minister, the investigation seeks to uncover any potential lapses in safety measures at the facility.

Furthermore, police have suggested that their preliminary findings indicate possible criminal negligence associated with the accident. The legal proceedings initiated will potentially hold responsible parties accountable as investigations progress.

Officials have assured the affected families and the public that every effort will be made to bring transparency and justice regarding the case. The investigation will involve examining the existing protocols and management practices within the power plant.

Compensation for Victims’ Families

In light of the tragic events, Vedanta Power Limited has publicly announced a compensation package for the families of those who lost their lives in the blast. The company has pledged Rs 35 lakh and offered employment support for the bereaved families, aiming to provide some relief amidst their loss.

Moreover, Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his condolences regarding the incident. He has declared an ex-gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased, acknowledging the magnitude of the tragedy. The Prime Minister also announced assistance of Rs 50,000 for those injured, to be sourced from the PM National Relief Fund.

This financial support is intended to help families cope with the aftermath of the incident and provide some level of comfort during this difficult time. As investigations continue, the government remains focused on ensuring that such incidents are mitigated in the future.
