The CSR Journal Magazine

In a competitive bout, India’s Sachin Siwach secured his place in the Round of 16 in the men’s 60kg boxing event at the Commonwealth Games, following a challenging victory against Canada’s Keoma Al-Ahmadieh. The match, held on Saturday, saw Sachin display skill and strategy, ultimately winning by a split decision of 4-1.

Sachin’s performance was strong in the initial rounds, where he managed to gain a substantial lead over his opponent. He convincingly won the first round, achieving the favour of four out of five judges. Building on this momentum, he also edged out the second round, establishing a solid advantage.

Despite a vigorous response from Al-Ahmadieh in the final round, Sachin’s earlier efforts proved sufficient for him to secure victory. He is set to face England’s William Hewitt next as he aims for a place in the quarterfinals.

Swimmers’ Challenges in 400m Freestyle

The performance of Indian swimmers Dhakshan Shashikumar and Aryan Nehra in the men’s 400m freestyle event fell short as both did not qualify for the finals at the Tollcross Swimming Centre. Shashikumar recorded a time of 3:58.09 seconds, finishing in 15th place out of 27 competitors, while Nehra followed closely in 16th with a time of 4:00.26 seconds.

Competing in Heat 3, Shashikumar showed promise by initially placing seventh at the race’s halfway mark, but he was unable to maintain the pace necessary to secure a place in the final. Nehra, participating in Heat 4, struggled significantly and remained in last position for the duration of the race, ultimately finishing without any notable changes.

Both swimmers will take this experience as a part of their development in competitive swimming, looking for improvements in future events. Their participation in this high-calibre competition serves as valuable exposure at an international level.

Women’s Wheelchair Basketball Setback

In a challenging outing for India’s women’s wheelchair 3×3 basketball team, the squad faced a heavy defeat against Wales in their Group B match, finishing with a score of 1-16. The Indian players struggled throughout the match, failing to match the intensity and scoring efficiency exhibited by their Welsh counterparts.

The team’s performance highlighted difficulties in conversion, with India managing to make only one successful scoring attempt out of twelve possibilities. This stark contrast allowed Wales to dominate the game from start to finish, showcasing a well-organised and effective approach.

With hopes to recover, India will be looking to recalibrate and improve in their upcoming group-stage matches. Continued participation will be critical for their experience and overall campaign in the ongoing tournament.
