Ram Temple Gold Theft Probe: SIT Investigates Melting of Stolen Ornaments

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged theft of ornaments from the Ram Temple is investigating a new angle that suggests the stolen gold jewellery may have been melted into gold biscuits to erase its identity and make it difficult to trace.

According to officials, repeated searches for the missing ornaments have failed to produce any breakthrough, prompting investigators to explore the possibility that the accused destroyed the original form of the jewellery soon after the alleged theft. The ornaments reportedly included both gold and silver items donated to the temple by devotees. If the allegation is confirmed, investigators believe melting the jewellery into bullion would have significantly complicated efforts to recover the stolen valuables or establish their origin.

SIT Visits Temple, Questions Officials

As part of the ongoing investigation, members of the SIT visited the Ram Temple and inspected the premises. The team also questioned temple in-charge KD Babu regarding the procedures followed for receiving, storing and maintaining ornaments and other valuable offerings made by devotees.

Investigators sought details about the security arrangements, inventory management, and documentation maintained for precious metals and other donated valuables. Officials are attempting to determine whether any procedural lapses may have facilitated the alleged theft.

Records and Transactions Under Scanner

The SIT has also sought complete documentation related to ornaments and valuable donations received by the temple over the years. Investigators are examining records of gold and silver transferred to banks and the government-owned Printing and Minting Corporation of India (India Government Mint).

Officials are reviewing transaction records, storage registers and inventory logs to verify whether all deposited valuables were properly accounted for. The investigation aims to establish a clear audit trail of the temple’s precious assets and identify any discrepancies.

Investigation Continues

The alleged theft has triggered a comprehensive probe into the handling of temple donations and precious ornaments. Investigators are examining multiple aspects of the case, including financial records, security protocols and the movement of valuables.

The SIT is expected to continue questioning temple officials and other individuals connected to the case while analysing documentary evidence. Authorities hope the ongoing investigation will help determine the fate of the missing ornaments and identify those responsible for the alleged theft.
