The competition for the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust has significantly reduced to three candidates, with former bureaucrats Yogeshwar Ram Mishra and Rajesh Pandey emerging as the key contenders. According to government sources, the interview process for the role has concluded, and a panel of three names is being prepared for submission to the temple trust, which is responsible for making the final decision regarding the appointment.

Background of Contenders

Mishra is regarded as a strong candidate due to his extensive administrative background, particularly highlighted by his role in the development of the Kashi Corridor. His experience is viewed as a significant asset in fulfilling the requirements of the CEO role. Meanwhile, Pandey, who has served as a former police officer, is recognised for his distinguished policing career in Uttar Pradesh, where he was involved in high-profile encounters. These backgrounds make them two of the most viable candidates for the position.

Sources suggest that candidates who have progressed through the Provincial Civil Services (PCS) route may be preferred over those who are direct recruits. The current CEO of the Kashi Vishwanath Temple Trust is a PCS officer, and it is common for temple trusts in Uttar Pradesh to have representatives from this cadre. This could potentially give a competitive edge to both Mishra and Pandey.

The trust is specifically looking for a candidate who possesses experience, honesty, and competence, alongside a solid understanding of temple management. According to insiders, both shortlisted candidates are believed to meet these essential criteria. Notably, several retired armed forces officers were also included in the initial shortlist, suggesting that a retired military officer could potentially be chosen as the final candidate.

Selection Process and Current Status

The selection process for the CEO position commenced with an impressive 5,585 applications. Of these, 3,877 individuals submitted detailed curriculums vitae, while 1,580 applications along with presentations went through a comprehensive evaluation. The process then narrowed down to 111 online interactions, which eventually led to the final shortlist of 16 candidates.

The temple trust’s rigorous selection process reflects the importance of the role, which necessitates a capable leader to oversee the trust’s operations. Despite the significant number of applicants, no female candidates have emerged as notable contenders from the shortlist of 16, although the eligibility criteria for the CEO role did not impose any gender-specific restrictions.

The final selection will be made by the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, which holds the authority to appoint the next CEO. As the process moves forward, the trust aims to secure a leader who can effectively manage the temple’s affairs while upholding its values and traditions.
