The CSR Journal Magazine

Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu achieved a straight-game victory over Malaysia’s Wong Ling Ching, advancing to the second round of the Japan Open Super 750 badminton tournament held on 14 July 2026. Sindhu, currently ranked World No. 10, showcased her skills with a convincing score of 21-14, 21-11 against Wong, who is positioned at World No. 37.

Match Highlights

From the start of the match, Sindhu took command, quickly establishing a lead of 7-4. Although Wong tried to remain competitive, her unforced errors allowed the Indian shuttler to extend her advantage, reaching an 11-6 lead at the mid-game interval. Sindhu’s ability to mix her strokes effectively was evident, as she consistently pressured Wong with precise backhand net dribbles, well-timed drops, and cleverly disguised half-smashes.

Despite a few slight errors from Sindhu, including a wayward toss and an inaccurate cross-court shot, Wong was unable to capitalise on these openings. Sindhu earned herself seven game points with a powerful smash, ultimately securing the first game after a slight delay.

Following the break, Sindhu continued to dominate, speeding ahead to an 8-2 lead and expanding it to 11-3 by the interval. Wong struggled with her accuracy throughout this segment, allowing the Indian player to extend her lead to 16-5. Although Wong managed to string together three points in a brief rally, another error quickly turned the momentum back to Sindhu. The Indian athlete gained ten match points, but after missing her first opportunity, Wong’s subsequent error sealed Sindhu’s comfortable win.

Other Matches and Results

In related matches, Indian players Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto also progressed to the second round in the mixed doubles category. They secured a straight-game victory over Scotland’s Alexander Dunn and Julie Macpherson with scores of 21-16, 21-14. Their performance demonstrated notable teamwork and strategy as they efficiently handled their opponents.

However, Rohan Kapoor and Ruthvika Shivani Gadde faced an early exit from the tournament. The pair was defeated by China’s top-seeded duo, Feng Yan Zhe and Huang Dong Ping, with scores of 11-21, 10-21. Despite their efforts, Kapoor and Gadde were unable to match the intensity and skill exhibited by their opponents, resulting in their elimination in the opening round.

Looking ahead, the third-seeded Indian men’s doubles team of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty is set to compete against Denmark’s Daniel Lundgaard and Mads Vestergaard later today. Additionally, Hariharan Amsakarunan and MR Arjun will take on the pair from Chinese Taipei, Lee Jhe-Huei and Yang Po-Hsuan, in another match within the men’s doubles event.
