More than 40 girl students were taken to hospitals in Deoria, Uttar Pradesh, after falling ill during a Tiranga Yatra (Tricolour rally) on Thursday, August 13. This event was organised by the district administration in preparation for the upcoming Independence Day celebrations. The students reportedly experienced health issues primarily attributed to the severe heat and direct sunlight during the march.

As the rally concluded at a local stadium, several students began to complain of dizziness, with a number fainting due to the extreme conditions. Doctors suggested that the heat and extended exposure to the sun significantly impacted the students’ well-being.

Emergency services were activated, and several ambulances were dispatched to the stadium to assist the students. Those affected were transported to the emergency department of Maharshi Devraha Baba Autonomous State Medical College for treatment. Medical personnel confirmed that the students were being monitored and their conditions were stable.

Health Conditions and Response

Officials stated that all affected students were receiving appropriate medical attention and were out of danger. District Magistrate Madhusudan Hulgi, along with other administrative officials, visited the hospital to monitor the situation and check on the girls’ recovery.

Chief Development Officer (CDO) Rajesh Kumar Singh addressed the media, explaining that the health issues arose primarily due to the heat, reassuring the public that there was no cause for alarm. He noted that the children were gradually recuperating and preparations were being made for their discharge from the hospital.

In his remarks, DM Hulgi highlighted the enthusiasm of the students at the start of the day, noting that their energetic participation may have led them to neglect hydration. He acknowledged the impact of the high temperatures on the students’ health and confirmed it was not a fault of the children.

Details of the Tiranga Yatra

The Tiranga Yatra commenced at approximately 11 am, with an estimated 5,000 students from various schools taking part. As the march progressed, increasing heat and humidity began to affect some participants, leading to reports of dizziness among the students. Teachers were on hand to assist, providing water to the students to alleviate their symptoms.

After reaching the stadium, some students continued to experience symptoms, and several fainted. It became apparent that the heat was significantly affecting the young participants. Efforts were made promptly to address these issues, ensuring that the students received immediate care and support.

The incident has raised awareness regarding the importance of hydration and preparedness during outdoor events, particularly in extreme weather conditions. The local administration is expected to review the circumstances to enhance future safety measures at public gatherings.
