The government has initiated various arrangements to enhance the visitor experience during the Independence Day celebrations at the Red Fort on August 15, 2026. These preparations include the introduction of cloak rooms and a contingent of volunteers to assist attendees.

A total of 25 cloak rooms will be made available across six locations, responding to positive feedback from previous events. This expansion aims to provide visitors with secure storage for their belongings while attending the celebrations.

Accessibility and Transportation Arrangements

In an effort to improve accessibility, NCC cadets will also be stationed at metro stations and parking lots to assist those needing wheelchair accommodations. This measure is primarily focused on aiding senior citizens and individuals requiring additional support during the event.

Metro services will commence at 4 am on August 15 to facilitate timely arrival at the venue. Free metro travel will be available for invitees, with QR codes distributed through electronic invitations for easy access.

Parking facilities will be allocated at the Parade Ground for visitors holding valid parking passes. Enhanced pedestrian movement has also been prioritised, with the addition of stronger ramps and extra stairs to connect upper and lower Subhash Marg.

Live Traffic Updates and Weather Preparedness

On the day of the main event, traffic restrictions and diversions will be updated in real time on Google Maps and Mappls Maps, allowing citizens to plan their routes effectively and avoid restricted areas around the Red Fort.

Given the potential for adverse weather conditions, rain ponchos will be distributed to invitees at both Madhav Das Park and August 15 Park. Dignitaries at the Rampart will also receive protective gear to shield against rainfall.

This year’s Independence Day invitation card prominently features the Seva Teerth and the Dharam Chakra, introducing a symbolic element to the national commemoration. The overall focus of these arrangements is to create a more accessible, organised, and comfortable atmosphere for all attendees, ensuring a smooth flow of movement around the Red Fort.
