The CSR Journal Magazine

NLC India Limited has established a partnership with the Auroville Foundation through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to supply electric vehicles under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme. This initiative, which is valued at ₹21.40 lakh, is intended to encourage clean transportation and bolster sustainable mobility within the Auroville community.

Goals of the Initiative

This CSR initiative signifies NLC India’s ongoing dedication to environmental sustainability, promoting the shift towards electric vehicles to help mitigate carbon emissions. It aligns with the Auroville Foundation’s long-term goals of fostering renewable energy, conserving the environment, and developing sustainable community initiatives.

The implementation of electric vehicles will enhance eco-friendly transport options throughout Auroville, aiding the community’s objective of sustainable living and reducing reliance on traditional fuel-powered vehicles. The initiative aims to foster cleaner air quality, lower emissions, and promote greener mobility solutions within the region.

The MoU was formalised on June 26, 2026, with high-ranking officials from both organisations present for the signing. NLC India Limited was represented by several key figures, including Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, the Chairman and Managing Director; Samir Swarup, the Director of Human Resources; D.V.S. Narayana Murthy, Executive Director for Corporate Legal, CSR, and Medical; and T. Chellam, Deputy General Manager and Unit Head for CSR.

Significance of the Partnership

The Auroville Foundation’s delegation was led by Dr. G. Seetharaman, Officer on Special Duty (OSD), alongside Selvaganapathi, the Procurement Officer. This collaboration marks a significant stride towards shared objectives in sustainable development, asserting the commitment of both organisations to promote responsible corporate initiatives.

By investing in clean mobility infrastructure, this initiative supports India’s broader ambition to transition to environmentally friendly transportation. It also emphasises the integral role of CSR in fostering both environmental stewardship and community development.

As part of this collaborative effort, the deployment of electric vehicles is anticipated to not only transform transport modalities within Auroville but also inspire similar initiatives in other regions. This partnership serves as a model for how corporate entities can contribute meaningfully to societal welfare and environmental sustainability.
