The Tashar Aibo community in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State is in shock after a young man, identified as Abubakar Gaske, was allegedly stabbed to death by his wife, Zainab Muhammad, just three days after their wedding.

The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon, November 21, 2025, while the victim was resting at home. Gaske, a well-known maize seller in the area, was reportedly attacked while asleep, suffering a fatal wound to his neck.

Incident Details and Discovery

According to witnesses, Zainab Muhammad, in her 20s and originally from Katsina metropolis, reportedly attacked her husband with a knife while he slept. The motive for the attack remains unclear. Neighbors described the victim as a humble and hardworking man, widely liked in the community.

Gaske’s family members had been planning a visit that evening, but tragedy struck when the groom was found dead in his house. Sources revealed that Zainab appeared confused after the incident and sought food from a neighbor, which led to suspicions among the locals. Upon following her, they discovered the lifeless body of Gaske, lying in a pool of blood.

Unanswered Questions and Ongoing Investigation

Zainab Muhammad, who had been previously married and divorced, information unknown to the groom’s family, fled the scene after the attack, prompting residents to notify the authorities. Katsina State Police have confirmed the incident and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the killing.

Police spokesperson DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu stated that detectives were immediately dispatched to the scene, and the victim was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Statement of Police

Police Public Relations Officer in Katsina, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, in a statement on Monday, said, “On November 23rd, 2025, at about 1:30pm, a report was received at the Jibia Division that one Abdullahi (not his real name), a newly wedded groom, was found motionless in a pool of blood in his residence situated in Tashar Buja quarters, Jibia Local Government Area, Katsina State.

“The Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, CP Bello Shehu, assured the public of a diligent and thorough investigation into the matter and urged anyone with useful information to come forward and assist the investigation.”

Marriage Not Forced

A relative of the deceased, Aminu Danladi, confirmed that the marriage was not forced and that the couple had maintained a good relationship prior to the tragic event.

While the community struggles to understand the motives behind this shocking act, authorities have assured the public of a thorough investigation. As of now, Zainab Muhammad remains in custody, and further details are awaited.
