“Next CM will be a BJP Worker, Born in Bengal”: Amit Shah Replies to Mamata’s “Outsider” Jibe

The CSR Journal Magazine

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has responded to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s remarks about the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by asserting that the next Chief Minister will be a BJP worker, who has been raised and educated in Bengal. Shah’s statements were made during a press conference in Kolkata on April 24, amidst the upcoming Assembly elections.

Shah claimed that Banerjee’s insinuation of “outsiders” ruling the state after a BJP victory is unfounded. He stated, “I want to tell Didi, the next Chief Minister of Bengal will be someone who was born in Bengal, educated in the Bengali medium and will be able to speak Bengali…” He emphasised that the only change would be the absence of her nephew, Abhishek Banerjee, in power.

In his critique of Banerjee’s stance on women’s safety, Shah assured women in the state that their safety would be a priority for the BJP government. He stated, “On the 5th, after the government of the BJP is formed, even at 1 o’clock at night, a young girl will leave with a scooter; no goon will be able to look at her.”

Commitment to Women’s Safety and Crime Victims

Shah pledged that the BJP would empower victims of alleged crimes by including them in the legislative process. He mentioned specific candidates, including Ratna Debnath, the mother of a victim from the RG Kar case, who has been fielded from the Panihati Assembly constituency. He expressed confidence that victims’ experiences would guide the party’s governance policies.

Shah further critiqued the current regime for being ineffective in ensuring safety for women. He reiterated the importance of creating a secure environment, noting a serious lack in the current administration’s approach to such issues. “The formation of the BJP government in Bengal is a crucial step towards providing safety and security for women,” he stated.

Regarding the government’s integrity, Shah emphasised that the BJP would address corruption. He warned that after forming the government, traders would not need to pay what he termed ‘Bhatija Tax’ or ‘Bhaipo Tax’ and affirmed a commitment to combating the corruption allegedly institutionalised under Banerjee’s leadership.

Polling and Election Security

Shah pointed out that the Phase I of the West Bengal elections was conducted peacefully with a substantial turnout of 91.78 per cent, as per the Election Commission of India. He compared this to previous elections that saw numerous injuries, highlighting the improved security measures in place during this round of voting.

During his address, Shah commented on the importance of the next phase of the elections, suggesting that there was significant enthusiasm among voters. He stated, “After May 5, ‘Anga, Banga and Kalinga’, all three places will be ruled by the BJP and the lotus,” linking the future governance to the party’s ideology.

The polling for Phase II of the Assembly elections is scheduled for April 29, with counting activities set for May 4. Shah has appealed to voters to participate actively in this phase, underscoring the significance of their choices in shaping the future governance of the region.
