Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami recently honoured 13 women and 35 Anganwadi workers in a ceremony at Mukhya Sevak Sadan, part of the Chief Minister’s Camp Office in Dehradun on August 8. The event aimed to acknowledge the significant contributions of these individuals in various spheres of society. The Chief Minister congratulated the awardees and expressed his best wishes for their future endeavours.

Celebrating Teelu Rauteli’s Legacy

During his address at the event, CM Dhami highlighted the historical importance of Veerangana Teelu Rauteli’s birth anniversary for Uttarakhand’s legacy and women’s self-respect. He noted that Rauteli symbolises courage, bravery, and empowerment for women. The Chief Minister stated that women have an equally pivotal role in the history of Uttarakhand, comparable to men, and that Rauteli’s legacy will be revered for its emphasis on female warrior spirit.

CM Dhami expressed that the stories of women warriors like Teelu Rauteli serve as inspirational tales of dignity and empowerment. He emphasised that the daughters of Uttarakhand consistently uplift the state through their achievements and resilience. The honoured women are expected to inspire many more girls across the region.

During the ceremony, Dhami mentioned that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, numerous initiatives targeting the empowerment, safety, and dignity of women have been launched at a national level. He listed several programmes such as the 33 per cent reservation for women in legislative bodies, Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao, and the Swachh Bharat Mission, which aim to enhance women’s lives throughout India.

Increased Recognition for Award Recipients

In 2023, significant changes have been made regarding the prize money associated with the Teelu Rauteli Awards, which increased from ₹31,000 to ₹51,000 and has now been further raised to ₹75,000. Similarly, the Anganwadi Worker Award amount has seen an increase from ₹51,000 to ₹61,000. CM Dhami declared that these enhancements reflect the government’s respect for the commitment and contributions of women in Uttarakhand.

The Chief Minister articulated that augmenting these award amounts serves as more than just financial assistance; it represents the state’s respect for the invaluable services provided by its women. He praised the essential role Anganwadi workers play in child development, health, and nutrition, illustrating their crucial function in connecting government initiatives with communities.

Additionally, CM Dhami announced an increment in the honorarium for Anganwadi workers, Mini Anganwadi workers, and helpers, citing that their honorarium would rise from ₹7,500 to ₹9,300, from ₹4,500 to ₹6,250, and from ₹3,550 to ₹5,250 respectively. The government has also initiated promotion provisions for Anganwadi workers to the supervisor level.

Government’s Commitment to Women’s Empowerment

He underscored that empowering the women of Uttarakhand is essential for the state’s overall progress and its aspiration to be the best in the country.

The state government has embraced various social initiatives aiming to elevate the status and dignity of women. CM Dhami reaffirmed that the welfare and empowerment of women will remain a top priority for his administration, ensuring that all efforts are directed towards creating a supportive environment for women and girls across Uttarakhand.
