NEET PG 2026 Registration Commences Without First-Come-First-Served City Rule

The CSR Journal Magazine

The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has officially launched the registration for NEET PG 2026, starting from July 1, 2026. This postgraduate medical entrance examination is set to be held on August 30, 2026, using a computer-based format at various examination centres nationwide. Candidates wishing to participate are encouraged to thoroughly review the information bulletin prior to concluding their registration to avoid last-minute complications.

According to the announcement, candidates can submit their online applications until July 21, 2026, at 11:55 pm. The detailed information bulletin, which comprises essential information regarding eligibility criteria, the format of the exam, the fee structure, and additional instructions, will be accessible on the NBEMS website from 4 pm on the same day. Exam centres will be informed to candidates on August 11, with the results expected to be declared by September 30.

Changes in the Test City Allocation Process

It is noted that the first preferred state should correspond with the state noted in the application, while the other two choices need to be neighbouring states. Additionally, candidates are required to provide a valid correspondence address alongside acceptable proof. Once the application is submitted, candidates will be unable to modify their correspondence address or state preferences, including during any correction window that may be available.

Furthermore, candidates are reminded to upload recent photographs that are not older than three months, adhering strictly to the provided guidelines for image submissions. Applications featuring unclear, modified or non-compliant photographs could be subject to rejection, potentially resulting in the denial of an admit card being issued to the applicant.

Administration and City Assignment Rights

NBEMS has stated that while every effort will be made to assign candidates a test city based on their preferences, the board retains the authority to designate a test city or centre anywhere in India. Such decisions may be influenced by various factors, including administrative, security, logistical, or technical requirements.

This year’s changes reflect an overall effort by NBEMS to standardise the examination process and enhance fair access to testing facilities for all candidates. The fundamental aim is to ensure that the examination is conducted smoothly and equitably across the country.

With the commencement of registrations, candidates are urged to prepare their documentation and submissions ahead of the deadline. This proactive approach will help in ensuring that they do not face any unnecessary challenges during the application process, ultimately facilitating a more efficient experience leading up to the examination date.
