The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has confirmed the appointment of Gyanesh Bharti as the new Chief Secretary for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Repatriation From Central Deputation

Gyanesh Bharti was previously serving on central deputation as Deputy Election Commissioner since August 25, 2022. His term in this role was initially set to conclude on June 18, 2028. However, the Administrative Cadre Committee (ACC) has approved his repatriation back to his parent cadre. This decision comes less than a year after his earlier appointment to the Election Commission.

According to the orders issued by the MHA, the repatriation of Bharti was initiated at the request of the Ministry and resulted in an extended ‘cooling off’ period. The official statement regarding his new appointment specifies that Bharti will assume the role of Chief Secretary of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands effective immediately upon his assumption of charge. It is stated that his tenure will continue until further orders are issued.

In a separate announcement from the Ministry of Home Affairs, also on August 5, 2023, senior IAS officer Manoj Kumar Dwivedi was appointed as the Chairperson of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC). This appointment received the approval of the Competent Authority and followed established procedures under the New Delhi Municipal Council Act of 1994.

The official notification regarding Dwivedi’s appointment was signed by Praveen Kumar Rai, who serves as Joint Secretary to the Government of India. This communication specified that the Central Government has conferred the role of Chairperson upon Dwivedi, who is associated with the AGMUT cadre and holds the number 1997.

Dwivedi’s new role within the NDMC is indicative of the Centre’s ongoing efforts to strategically position experienced administrators in key governance roles. His experience is expected to play a critical part in managing municipal affairs and related responsibilities in New Delhi.
