A 28-year-old man in Bengaluru has been reported to have strangled his wife with a nylon dog leash before taking his own life using the same strap. The authorities revealed this tragic event unfolded on July 16, 2026. The couple, identified as Manoj and Swapna, both originally from Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh, had been married for approximately three years. They were living in a household with Manoj’s parents at the time of the incident.

Details of the Altercation

According to police reports, an argument preceded the incident. Manoj, a carpenter, had not attended work for the past four days, which may suggest underlying issues. Following the quarrel, both individuals allegedly locked themselves inside their residence. Concerned residents of the building and the landlord alerted the police about the situation.

Upon receiving the alarm, local law enforcement responded and forced entry into the apartment. Officers discovered Manoj hanging from a ceiling fan, while Swapna was also found deceased within the premises. Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Kona Vamsi Krishna provided these details, indicating that initial findings suggest a dog leash was involved in both the strangulation of Swapna and the subsequent hanging of Manoj.

The police have confirmed that their Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO) conducted a thorough inspection of the area where the incident occurred. DCP Krishna noted that further investigation would be necessary to ascertain the exact cause of the incident and to clarify the sequence of events leading up to it. He reiterated that the initial findings indicated the involvement of the dog leash as a key element in the tragic scenario.
