The CSR Journal Magazine

A 31-year-old individual has been detained in connection with the stabbing of two security guards in Mira Road, located near Mumbai. The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday, April 28, 2026, at around 4 am when the suspect, Jaib Zubair Ansari, posed questions regarding the guards’ religion and their ability to recite the Kalma, an Islamic declaration of faith. The guards, Rajkumar Mishra and Subroto Sen, declined to read the statement, which led to the assault.

Details of the Attack

The attack took place at an under-construction site where Mishra and Sen were stationed. Upon learning their names and religious affiliation, Ansari allegedly asked if they could recite the Kalma. After their refusal, he reportedly produced a knife and inflicted wounds on both men. Mishra was left with severe injuries, including damage to his intestines, while Sen sustained minor back injuries. Following the attack, Sen sought refuge in a security cabin and alerted local police.

Emergency Response

Law enforcement responded promptly after being notified by Sen, transporting both injured guards to Wockhardt Hospital for medical care. According to police reports, the conditions of Mishra and Sen are now stable, and they continue to receive ongoing treatment for their injuries.

Investigation and Arrest

Upon receiving word of the stabbing, Maharashtra Police dispatched a team to the crime scene. Investigators utilised CCTV footage to identify Ansari and trace him to his rented home in the Naya Nagar locality of Mira Road East. Within 90 minutes of the incident, he was apprehended. A formal case has been opened at the Naya Nagar Police Station based on Sen’s statement.

During the investigation, authorities discovered that Ansari had allegedly engaged with numerous ISIS-related propaganda videos online. Sources indicate that he previously studied in the United States until 2019 before returning to reside in Mira Road. His landlord reportedly requested him to vacate the rented flat by May 5. Ansari had been employed as a teacher teaching chemistry and mathematics until approximately three to four months ago.

Transfer to Anti-Terrorism Squad

Following the initial investigation, the case has now been assigned to the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of Maharashtra Police for further scrutiny. The inquiry is a collaborative effort between the Naya Nagar police and the ATS, aimed at uncovering any potential ideological or extremist motivations behind the attack.

In an official statement, police have urged the public to refrain from sharing unverified information or rumours pertaining to the incident. Authorities cautioned that legal action would be initiated against individuals disseminating misinformation related to the case.

The investigation continues as both local police and the ATS delve deeper into the circumstances surrounding the attack and the suspect’s background.
