An 18-year-old woman was fatally attacked in her home in Bengaluru by her former boyfriend, Bande Nawaz, on July 10, 2026. The incident occurred around 9:30 am at the victim’s residence in Ramagondanahalli, Varthur. Following the stabbing, Nawaz reportedly attempted to take his own life.

The police reported that both individuals had known each other for three years, having attended the same private school. Although they had previously been in a relationship, the woman declined Nawaz’s marriage proposal, particularly after her parents arranged her marriage to another individual.

Upon entering the home, Nawaz allegedly locked the victim’s two younger brothers in a separate room before assaulting her. The attack involved multiple stab wounds on various parts of her body, including the neck, hands, palms, ribs, and thighs.

Response and Medical Treatment

Despite her severe injuries, the victim was able to escape the house and raised an alarm, prompting neighbours to notify the authorities. Police officers arrived at the scene and swiftly transported both the victim and Nawaz to separate hospitals for treatment.

The victim is currently receiving care at Manipal Hospital, where her condition is reportedly stabilising. Nawaz, a driver by profession residing in Tubarahalli, is being treated at Vaidheyi Hospital. A senior police officer noted that Nawaz had attempted to slit his own neck in what appeared to be a suicide attempt.

Authorities have booked Nawaz under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for attempted murder. Police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack and any potential motivations.
