The murder of a security guard in a residential building in Juhu, Mumbai, has led to the arrest of five individuals, including a family cook. The police, on 9 August 2026, reported that the offences occurred during the night of 1 and 2 August. The main suspect has been identified as Jogeshwar Udan Mallik, also known as Kishan, who was employed as a cook by the family targeted in the robbery.

According to police accounts, Manojkumar Yadav, aged 38, was allegedly lured by the accused under the guise of attending a liquor gathering. Following this, he was purportedly strangled using a cloth rope, and his body was concealed in the water tank of the building.

The police investigation revealed that Yadav’s murder was part of a larger plan aimed at robbing an apartment belonging to a businessman residing on the sixth floor, who was also Malik’s employer. The conspiracy had reportedly been in the works for almost two years.

Robbery Attempt Unearths Broader Conspiracy

After Yadav was reported missing by residents of the building, the investigation uncovered the events leading to his death. Following the murder, the accused attempted to access the businessman’s flat around 4 am, but their efforts to enter using a duplicate key were unsuccessful. This led them to abandon the operation and flee the scene.

In the wake of these developments, police apprehended Malik and, during interrogation, he allegedly admitted to conspiring to eliminate his employer, along with his wife and daughter, to facilitate the robbery. Malik’s planned heist purportedly aimed to procure cash and valuable jewellery from the family’s flat.

The investigation has revealed that Malik collaborated with several accomplices in executing this scheme. This group includes Vijay Gonzare, as well as brothers Sharad Yerudkar, aged 41, and Mahadev Yerudkar, aged 35, in addition to Aniket Bornak, aged 30. All individuals involved have been arrested and are currently in custody.
