Jeff Bezos Says AI Will Create More Jobs Than It Replaces, Citing New Opportunities Across Industries

The CSR Journal Magazine

Recent advancements in artificial intelligence have led to widespread concerns about job losses across various sectors. Numerous experts and commentators have speculated that technologies from companies like OpenAI and Anthropic could lead to significant workforce reductions. However, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has emphasised that such fears are exaggerated. In a discussion with the Financial Times, he asserted that AI has the potential to create more jobs than it eliminates.

Bezos argued against the notion that AI will predominantly result in job displacement, emphasising that productivity enhancements and new business opportunities are likely to unfold. He highlighted that the upcoming decade might usher in transformative changes facilitated by technological progress, acknowledging the potential of AI to unlock new industries.

The entrepreneur noted, “The people who are jumping to the conclusion that the jobs are all going to go away … I think these people are just wrong.” His perspective places AI within a broader narrative of multiple technological advancements that could significantly shape society.

Overview Of Prometheus AI Venture

In November 2025, Bezos launched Prometheus, his first major AI venture since stepping down as Amazon’s CEO in 2021. This undertaking, which carries an estimated valuation of $41 billion, is co-led by Vikram Bajaj, a former Google executive. Prometheus aims to develop what Bezos refers to as an “artificial general engineer.” This AI system is designed to process engineering and manufacturing data, thereby enabling understanding of physical principles and aiding the design of intricate physical products.

Distinct from many contemporary AI firms focusing primarily on digital tasks, Prometheus is directed towards the fields of engineering and manufacturing. The company aspires to streamline the design and production processes for a wide range of products, including medical devices, consumer electronics, and even jet engines, with an emphasis on reducing reliance on costly physical prototypes.

According to Bezos, this innovation will revolutionise product development, making it more efficient while allowing companies to undertake projects previously deemed too expensive or complex. He expressed a belief that, while some traditional jobs could face automation, the overall impact on employment would likely be positive.

Debate On AI’s Impact On Employment

Bezos’s comments occur amidst a broader discourse among business leaders and economists regarding the implications of AI for the workforce. Several industry executives have voiced concerns about the potential for generative AI technologies to displace substantial numbers of jobs, particularly in white-collar sectors. Dario Amodei, the CEO of Anthropic, has raised alarms about the capacity of AI to replace significant portions of the labour force.

In a recent essay, Amodei suggested implementing higher capital gains taxes to support universal basic income initiatives should AI-driven job losses become prevalent. Contrarily, Bezos envisions a future in which AI enhances productivity to such an extent that labour shortages become the predominant issue rather than unemployment. He argued that advancements in technology would foster entirely new industries, creating heightened demand for a workforce.

Prometheus has reportedly attracted substantial investment, raising $12 billion from notable investors, including JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, BlackRock, and Bezos himself. The company is also in the process of expanding its workforce, seeking engineers and researchers from competitors such as OpenAI, xAI, and Meta.
