IPL: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s Dynamic Fifty Guides RR to Seven-Wicket Win Over LSG

The CSR Journal Magazine

In a thrilling encounter at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, Rajasthan Royals (RR) secured a convincing seven-wicket victory against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The standout performance came from Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who compiled an explosive 93 runs off just 38 balls. His innings was filled with aggressive strokes, including 10 sixes and 7 fours, and was pivotal in RR reaching their target of 221 runs.

Key Contributions from Teammates

Sooryavanshi was well-supported by Yashasvi Jaiswal and Dhruv Jurel, who contributed significantly to the chase. Jaiswal scored 43 runs, showcasing his striking ability early in the innings. Jurel also played a crucial role, scoring a brisk 53 runs off 38 deliveries. Their combined efforts propelled RR to a successful chase, moving the team into the fourth position on the IPL points table with 14 points.

Chasing a High Target

The match saw RR facing a daunting target after LSG set a total of 220 runs for the loss of five wickets. The innings began with Jaiswal and Sooryavanshi opening for RR. Jaiswal immediately made an impact, hitting three consecutive boundaries in the first over. Although Mohsin Khan managed a tight follow-up over, conceding just two runs, Jaiswal’s explosive intent soon shone through again as he amassed 19 runs in Khan’s next over. RR concluded the powerplay with a solid score of 71 runs without losing a wicket, with Sooryavanshi at 25 and Jaiswal at 39.

Mid-Innings Acceleration

After the powerplay, important breakthroughs occurred with Akash Singh dismissing Jaiswal. However, Sooryavanshi’s aggressive batting style ensured that momentum remained in RR’s favor. He notably scored 26 runs in a single over bowled by Singh. The batsman soon reached his fifty in just 23 balls, marking his fourth fifty-plus score of the season and the slowest of his current campaign in IPL 2026.

Late Innings Developments

The assault on LSG’s bowling attack continued as Sooryavanshi struck powerful shots, including two sixes in an over from Prince Yadav, from which they scored 29 runs—a record for this season against LSG. His innings ultimately ended as Mohsin Khan caught him short of a century at 93 runs. Lhuan-dre Pretorius came to the crease but was run out quickly for just 7 runs, leaving Donovan Ferreira and Jurel to finish the match for RR.

Bowling Challenges for Rajasthan Royals

Despite the batting success, Rajasthan’s bowling unit faced ongoing challenges, once again allowing LSG to surpass 200 runs. This match marked RR’s eighth instance of conceding such totals this season, one of the highest records in IPL history. LSG’s innings were bolstered by a solid opening partnership between Josh Inglis and Mitchell Marsh, who raced to 83 runs during the powerplay.

Lucknow’s Strong Total

LSG’s innings cultivated a strong total, with Inglis scoring a quick fifty off just 30 balls and forming a partnership of 109 runs with Marsh. Although Inglis was out for 60 runs, Marsh continued to dominate the RR bowlers, finishing with 96 runs off 57 balls. Late contributions from captain Rishabh Pant helped secure LSG’s position above 200 runs. Both he and Marsh fell victim to run-outs in the final over, concluding their innings at 220/5. For RR, Yash Raj Punja took 2 wickets for 35 runs while Jofra Archer captured one wicket.
