On July 22, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy delivered a significant address in Kodangal to mark Indian National Flag Adoption Day. He strongly denounced the central government’s approach to democratic demonstrations. Reddy called for a resurgence led by the youth of India, highlighting the Tricolour as a powerful emblem of unity and democracy for the nation’s population of 1.4 billion.

During his speech, Revanth Reddy underscored the evolution of the younger generation, describing them as no longer passive observers. “We, the Gen Z, are rising and ready to influence our nation’s future,” he stated, as he reiterated the importance of youth participation in governance.

Condemnation of Divisive Politics

In his address, the Chief Minister urged an immediate cessation of politics that promotes division. He declared, “Enough of divide and rule. Enough of caste arithmetic and religious polarisation.” Reddy expressed his discontent towards the political treatment of young people, critiquing the practice of treating them merely as electoral assets while neglecting their futures.

Reddy’s remarks included a fierce critique of the Modi government’s handling of public protests, focusing specifically on the treatment of activists. He strongly condemned the forceful actions taken against dissent, stating that such methods undermine the values represented by the national flag and the Constitution. “These actions betray the spirit of the Tiranga,” he asserted.

He cited specific instances of repression, including the crackdown on activists and student protests, indicating that the government’s response to dissent has elicited a rekindled resolve among the youth. According to Reddy, each act of repression further fuels their determination to demand justice and quality education.

Call for Political Reform

Reddy called for a transformative shift in the political context of India, urging all political parties to rethink their strategies and focus on the needs of the younger population. He asserted that India belongs to its youth, emphasizing that no political entity should jeopardise their education and aspirations.

He conveyed a direct message to the nation, stating that the youth stand united under the Tricolour in defence of India’s democratic principles. Reddy rallied the youth by proclaiming their commitment to safeguarding the fabric of the nation against divisive elements.

“The youth of India are resolute: we will protect our country’s soul and not allow disruptive forces to fracture our unity,” Reddy proclaimed. He called for an end to hollow promises, insisting that genuine opportunities—such as quality education, jobs, and entrepreneurship—must take precedence over superficial slogans.

The Chief Minister concluded his address by unequivocally stating that the younger generation is prepared to confront challenges. They aim to shape the country with an unwavering resolve towards a collective future, demanding leaders who prioritise youth-centric policies.
