Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri recently met with Delcy Rodriguez, the Acting President of Venezuela, in New Delhi. During the meeting, Puri indicated that a technical team from India is scheduled to visit Venezuela soon to assess potential opportunities in the energy sector. He took to social media platform X to share insights on the longstanding partnership between India and Venezuela, which has been in place since 2008.
Puri emphasised the unique complementarities between the two nations, noting that Venezuela holds the largest proven oil reserves globally. He pointed out that while India has a significant demand for energy, it also possesses the technological expertise and resources required to effectively refine Venezuelan crude oil at its refineries.
As of the months of April and May 2026, Venezuela was already one of the largest suppliers of crude oil to India, highlighting the existing relationship and its future potential. Puri’s remarks suggest that the Indian technical team’s forthcoming visit aims to further explore and enhance this collaboration.

Puri elaborated on the existing investments made by Indian oil and gas companies in Venezuela. He indicated a strong willingness to pursue new collaborative opportunities that would bolster the bilateral energy partnership.
