Venezuela Expresses Gratitude to India for Army Field Hospital Support to Earthquake Survivors

The CSR Journal Magazine

Venezuela’s Foreign Minister Yvan Gil visited the Indian Army field hospital established in Caracas, where he extended thanks to India for its humanitarian support following the recent earthquakes. These earthquakes, which struck in June, resulted in over 1,700 fatalities, prompting a swift international response.

During the visit, Gil was accompanied by Indian Ambassador PK Ashok Babu. The Minister engaged with doctors and members of the local community, acknowledging their efforts in providing medical care to those displaced by the tragedy. The Indian Embassy in Caracas reiterated the significance of India’s assistance in alleviating the suffering of the earthquake-affected population.

Gil expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Indian government, emphasising that this support was crucial for the Venezuelan people during this dire time. In a statement posted on X, he conveyed sincere thanks on behalf of the Venezuelan government, highlighting India’s commitment to global solidarity in times of crisis.

Details of the Humanitarian Mission

The mission, titled “Operacion Amistad,” involved the deployment of two Indian Air Force C-17 Globemaster aircraft which transported substantial aid to Venezuela. This included the field hospital, over 35 tonnes of emergency supplies, medicines, and medical equipment, in addition to two mobile medical units known as BHISHM Cubes.

BHISHM cubes are designed for emergency medical care, demonstrating the efficiency of India’s response to international disasters. The Indian Embassy noted that medical teams have been collaborating with Venezuelan authorities to ensure that urgent medical assistance and rescue operations are conducted swiftly and effectively.

The earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale, have been acknowledged as some of the strongest to hit Venezuela in over a century. Their impact was felt across a wide area, necessitating immediate global support for the affected regions.

Continuing Relief Efforts by India

The establishment of the field hospital underscores India’s ongoing commitment to humanitarian assistance in Venezuela. Medical personnel deployed there are working round the clock to provide comprehensive care to those afflicted by the recent disasters.

As the relief efforts continue, the field hospital remains a vital resource for many Venezuelans who have lost access to healthcare due to the earthquakes. The Indian government, through its embassy and armed forces, aims to ensure that the medical needs of the affected population are met promptly.

The deployment of the Indian field hospital and the accompanying medical teams have been instrumental in the overall response to the crisis. The efforts signify a strong bond of cooperation between India and Venezuela, reinforcing India’s role as a proactive contributor in international disaster relief operations.
