India has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Afghanistan’s healthcare sector by gifting a range of medical equipment aimed at improving diagnosis, treatment and specialised care facilities in the country.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced that the assistance package includes neonatal and paediatric care devices, cardiograph machines, ventilators, patient monitors, maxillofacial electrocautery equipment, plastic surgery sets and specialised medical kits.

Sharing the development on X, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the initiative reflected India’s continued support for Afghanistan’s health sector and its commitment to the welfare of the Afghan people.

The latest assistance comes as New Delhi continues to expand its humanitarian engagement with Afghanistan amid ongoing economic and social challenges in the country.

India Reiterates Support For Afghan People

Earlier this week, the MEA underlined that India’s approach towards Afghanistan remains focused on promoting peace, stability and development through humanitarian assistance, development cooperation and capacity-building initiatives.

Addressing the weekly media briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal referred to the remarks made by India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Parvathaneni Harish, during a United Nations Security Council meeting on Afghanistan.

Jaiswal said India and Afghanistan share centuries-old civilisational ties and stressed that New Delhi’s position remains centred on the welfare and aspirations of the Afghan people.

“We stand in favour of peace and stability in Afghanistan and in the region so as to foster development and stability,” he said.

Focus On Food Security And Capacity Building

According to the MEA, India continues to assist Afghanistan in several sectors, including food security, healthcare and pharmaceutical support.

New Delhi has also been extending scholarships and capacity-building opportunities to Afghan citizens as part of its long-term engagement with the country.

Officials highlighted that development cooperation remains a key pillar of India’s relationship with Afghanistan, reflecting the longstanding friendship between the two nations.

India has consistently maintained that a peaceful and stable Afghanistan is essential for regional prosperity and has continued its humanitarian outreach despite changing political circumstances in the country.

Longstanding Ties Shape Bilateral Engagement

India and Afghanistan have shared close historical and cultural links spanning centuries, with New Delhi playing a significant role in the country’s reconstruction and development efforts over the years.

From infrastructure projects and educational initiatives to healthcare and humanitarian aid, India’s engagement has focused on improving the lives of ordinary Afghans and strengthening people-to-people ties.

The latest medical assistance package adds to a series of humanitarian measures undertaken by India and underscores New Delhi’s continued emphasis on supporting Afghanistan’s social and economic development.
