A road adjoining the US Consulate in Hyderabad was ceremonially designated as “Donald Trump Avenue” on Tuesday, with US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor and Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka jointly unveiling a commemorative plaque during celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of American Independence.

The ceremony formed part of the “Freedom 250” gala reception, which brought together diplomats, government representatives and leaders from the business, defence, aerospace and technology sectors. Organisers said the road naming reflects the growing significance of Hyderabad in strengthening ties between India and the United States.

Road Renaming Marks Bilateral Friendship

According to a statement issued on the occasion, the special designation was made by the Government of Telangana as a tribute to the United States and as recognition of Hyderabad’s expanding role in fostering engagement between the two countries.

Ambassador Gor and Deputy Chief Minister Vikramarka presided over the event, which highlighted the strategic, economic and technological links between India and the United States. Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and US Consul General in Hyderabad Laura Williams also attended the celebrations.

The event underscored the growing importance of Hyderabad as a centre for innovation, investment and international cooperation, particularly in sectors that have become central to the India-US partnership.

Ambassador Highlights Strategic and Economic Cooperation

Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Gor said Hyderabad has emerged as one of the most important hubs driving momentum in the bilateral relationship.

“Nowhere is the high-speed trajectory of our partnership more evident than in Hyderabad. From HITEC City to aerospace and defence, this region represents progress that is defining our bilateral momentum,” Gor said.

Referring to economic ties between the two countries, he added, “With our interim trade agreement and Mission India on track to bring over USD 20 billion of new investment to the United States, we are proving that America First does not mean America alone.”

Gor also expressed appreciation to the Telangana government for renaming the road.

“We are deeply grateful to the Government of Telangana for the generous tribute of naming Donald Trump Avenue, a gesture that reflects the kind of strong, respectful partnership President Trump has championed for America,” he said.

Telangana and Consulate Officials Emphasise Hyderabad’s Role

Extending greetings on the occasion of the United States’ 250th Independence Day celebrations, Deputy Chief Minister Vikramarka said Hyderabad continues to play an important role in advancing relations between the two nations.

“As the United States marks Freedom 250, Hyderabad is proud to stand as one of India’s strongest bridges to America,” Vikramarka said.

US Consul General Laura Williams, who hosted her first Independence Day reception in Hyderabad, highlighted the region’s contribution to innovation and technology-led growth.

“Hyderabad’s innovation ecosystem, spanning aerospace, defence, artificial intelligence, and biopharma across Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Odisha, is shaping the global future, and this consulate is committed to ensuring the talent and ideas flow freely to fuel that growth,” Williams said.

The reception also showcased expanding cooperation between India and the United States in areas such as trade, defence, technology, innovation and investment, reflecting the broadening scope of the bilateral partnership.
