Hoax Bomb Threat Disrupts IndiGo Flight at Bengaluru Airport

The CSR Journal Magazine

A hoax bomb threat significantly affected operations at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru on 16 July 2026, following the discovery of a suspicious handwritten note aboard IndiGo flight 6E-6423. The flight was set to depart for Ahmedabad, and the note was found in the aircraft’s lavatory shortly before take-off at approximately 7.35 pm. The note contained a message that read: “Don’t go. Bomb Hai! Please,” which alarmed the crew and triggered an immediate response from airport security.

Security Measures Initiated

Upon finding the note, the airline crew implemented standard emergency protocols, which included notifying airport authorities and initiating a comprehensive security inspection of the aircraft. The Bomb Threat Assessment Committee (BTAC) was swiftly convened at Terminal 1 to assess the situation. Officials confirmed that a thorough search was conducted, which ultimately found no explosives or suspicious items present on the aircraft.

The timely response helped ensure the safety of all passengers and crew members, as well as mitigating potential panic among those present at the airport. Following the inspection, the situation was reported to the appropriate authorities, who began coordinating further responses as necessary.

In light of the incident, the airport management lodged a formal complaint with the Airport Police, requesting the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against the unknown perpetrator. The authorities emphasised the severity of the threat, which not only disrupted operations but also raised serious safety concerns for everyone involved.

Ongoing Investigation and Legal Action

In their complaint, IndiGo Airlines expressed their need for assistance from law enforcement in the investigation to identify the individual responsible for the hoax. They stressed that incidents of this nature create unnecessary disruption and could have potentially hazardous repercussions for passengers and crew members alike. The complaint also highlighted the airline’s commitment to cooperating fully with the investigation process.

While the intention behind the handwritten note remains unclear, airport officials reiterated the importance of maintaining high security standards to safeguard against any future threats. The incident has raised questions regarding passenger behaviour and the repercussions of making false claims related to explosives in an airport environment.

Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, emphasising that such hoaxes could lead to significant legal consequences for those found responsible. Any updates from the ongoing investigation are expected to be publicised as the inquiry unfolds.
